Spanish street artist Pejac articulates the concept of "returning to normal" in a new and insightful series that focuses on the urgency of the issues affecting today's world. Centered on the increasingly catastrophic effects of the climate crisis and the social issues that dominate the news cycle, the artist tells the story of countless global crises in his largest exhibition to date, which opens at a former train factory in Berlin. The solo exhibition, titled APNEA, features his latest 45 works across a variety of mediums and themes, including chaotic scenes of acrylic, oil painting and painting, delicate honeycombs on cardboard, and large sculptures and installations that occupy industrial spaces.

Pejac has created many works since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this continued concern forms the basis of three interventions he paid tribute to healthcare workers in 2020. The new series includes disturbing depictions of the White House overcome by violent riots, jars releasing billowing smoke, an unsuspecting person playing golf in the foreground, and a whirlwind drain on the color palette. Other works depict a surreal indigenous map of the United States in which state boundaries are cracked in the dirt and Rodin's "thinkers" are crumbling in balance on scaffolding. "Painting within the four walls of my studio during the lockdown felt like a liberation and lifeline. APNEA represents this contradiction," the artist said.

Pejac likes to add some classic painting elements familiar to the public in the street graffiti, his poetic and allegorical works that are keenly linked to society and the environment, and have a considerable "language ability" in the painting method, so that street painting does not only exist in the corner of the street, but can lead us to pay deep attention to the surrounding life through paintings. Pejac's favorite materials include topics such as humanity, environmental protection and animal protection.

To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, Pejac will release "Boss" in the form of a limited edition print and postcard (shown below), and the proceeds will be donated to Sea-Watch, a German NGO that has helped thousands of immigrants across the Mediterranean. The artist also collaborated with the group on an installation depicting a child in a life jacket on top of Berlin's Neo-Gothic Santa Croce, a heart-wrenching visual that drew attention to the refugee crisis.
