"I'm climbing every day, I'm playing with my life" | climbed the first person to fall to his death

author:People of the Day

In the WeChat public account tweet on November 8, he wrote: "Now the old iron is most worried about security issues, we will show the safety equipment to everyone in the next video, safety first YongNing always in the heart, thank you old iron." ”

However, in the afternoon of the same day, he fell from the top floor of a 263-meter-high building and died on the spot. From the video of his cell phone recording his fall, people did not see what he called a "safety device."

In the past few days, a video has been spreading and fermenting on various platforms.

In the video, a small, thin young man with a headband is at the top of the glass curtain wall of a tall building. He kept wiping the glass wall, as if he were doing preparatory activities. After wiping for a long time, he tried twice to hang his body from the edge of the wall.

On his first attempt, he made two pull-ups and made a slightly difficult return to the top of the wall. There are no protective measures and companions.

On the second attempt, he hung a single body on the glass wall, and found that the wall was too slippery, and his feet could not be forced, so he could only rely on his arms to return to the roof. He was physically exhausted, struggled with his arm for about twenty seconds, and failed.

With a scream, he let go of his hand and disappeared into the camera, only to hear a "bang-pop."

This video comes from a selfie of an Apple phone he had set up earlier.

The young man's real name is Wu Yongning, and he was born in Changsha Ning Township in 1994. If it weren't for the accident, he would have gone to his girlfriend's hometown two days later to propose.

His screen name is "Extreme Wu Yongning". It is a person who specializes in climbing high-rise buildings, cliffs, etc., and then taking action selfies, a rising Internet celebrity. Over the past 10 months, he has continued to gain many fans on various platforms. Among them, there are 990,000 in the volcano video family.

"I'm climbing every day, I'm playing with my life" | climbed the first person to fall to his death

The place where Wu Yongning fell was the Huayuan International Center in Tianxin District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, with a height of 263 meters. The building has a total of 62 floors, of which only more than forty elevators are open to the public, and more than forty floors of elevators can only be climbed by stairs. On the way to the roof, the door needs to be opened by swiping the card multiple times, and only a few staff members have the right to open the door. How Wu Yongning finally reached the top of the 62-story building through multiple doors is unclear.

But the height of his fall was not so high. It is known that a netizen who claimed to be a police officer at the scene revealed that he fell from the decorative glass wall wall on the roof to the top floor platform, and the height difference between the two was about 14 meters. After the fall, Wu Yongning did not die immediately, "the internal organs do not know how much is broken, a large pool of blood, the head is swollen like a ball", "it is from the corner that fell down to a doorway and sat dead." After another ten hours, Wu Yongning's body was found and called the police.

During this time, his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kim Kim (not her real name), has been looking for him everywhere. She knew he had gone to Changsha to shoot a video, but had not been able to contact him since that afternoon. She called and messaged him, but there was no response, and no one knew where he was.

With a hint of illusion, she began to contact various public security bureaus and police stations in Changsha. Was the boyfriend caught climbing? Before, this experience was nothing new to him. But at most, it is a few words of training to release it.

Finally, the police gave her an echo. What she saw was a cold corpse.

Extreme sports? High Altitude Challenge? High-rise parkour?

No one can give a precise definition of Wu Yongning's behavior. But what is certain is that what he has done cannot conform to any of the above concepts.

In a video that has been officially deleted on the volcano video application, Wu Yongning grabbed a stone with his arm on the edge of a cliff observation deck in a scenic area, pulling the slightly thin body upwards again and again, doing pull-ups.

In the video, it can be seen that the tourists on the observation deck gathered at the corner of the cliff where Wu Yongning was located in more than ten seconds, and there was a lot of discussion. The surprise of the tourists is in stark contrast to Wu Yongning's calmness, with empty valleys and skylines in the background.

In the past 10 months, he has uploaded 301 such videos on various platforms.

Wu Yongning is not a person born to do this.

Once, his Weibo name was "Actor Wu Yongning", which was later changed to "Extreme - Yongning" in 2017.

According to his Weibo, it can be seen that he has played a group performance in TV series such as "New Snow Leopard", "Divine Eagle Hero", "Huanxi County Order" and has played 3 roles in "New Snow Leopard". On September 3, 2015, he posted three tweets, one of which featured a photo of him in a military uniform and a military hat, appearing expressionlessly in the camera' group performance.

"Every day I was beaten, I didn't have to fight back, and I was interrupted by someone before." His stepfather, Feng Shengliang, introduced to the Daily People that the family initially knew only that Wu Yongning was working as a martial arts stand-in in Hengdian and earned about 200 yuan a day.

Wu Yongning's biological father died of illness four years ago. His mother remarried to the countryside on the outskirts of Changsha four years ago and suffered from schizophrenia many years ago, and the family's financial situation has been relatively difficult. This may have been one of wu Yongning's motivations for deciding to change careers.

In 2017, Wu Yongning began to post dynamics and some small videos on volcano videos, but the response was minimal. On February 10, 2017, he posted the first video about extreme sports in high-rise buildings, that is, playing with a balance bike on the edge of the 10th floor, and typing the words "If you don't die, you won't die."

This video shows that getting a tip of more than 130 yuan.

Since then, Wu Yongning has often uploaded videos of extreme sports in high-rise buildings. Since August 2017, he has posted videos on platforms such as Weibo almost every day, and almost every video is a new framing and a new look. Sometimes you spit your tongue and make a grimace in front of the selfie stick, and sometimes you set up a selfie and pose as Sun Wukong builds a pergola and looks forward.

Buck (pseudonym), who is also a climbing party, said to the Daily People: "Wu Yongning is not the first person to climb the stairs in China, nor is he the most powerful person, and there are also people with better skills than him." But he was the most frequent, climbing almost every day. ”

Wu Yongning's self-evaluation is similar to this: "I dare not say that I am the first person in extreme sports in China, but I must be the one who plays the most fiercely, because I am climbing every day, and I am playing with my life." ”

As fame continues to rise, fans and tips follow. In less than a year, Wu Yongning gained 990,000 followers of volcano videos.

However, Jin Jin has not actually approved of wu Yongning's career.

Wu Yongning had been in an accident for a month, and Jin Jin still couldn't put it down. One afternoon a few days ago, she wrote a suicide note in the circle of friends, which read: "I don't want to let go of him, so I am in his world every day." ...... Only blame me for not being filial and not being able to bear this pain, which may be my last words. ”

"It's not that no one tried to persuade him, it's that he didn't listen." Kim told the Daily People that she had often persuaded her boyfriend not to try to climb the stairs at the limit again. But Wu Yongning only replied to this: "Before, when I went to sea, my ex-girlfriend didn't care about me, and I don't understand why you love me so much." ”

Sharing videos of climbing stairs in the WeChat circle of friends, Wu Yongning often blocks Jinjin. Not only does he block his girlfriend, he also shields his relatives.

The elders knew nothing about his "climbing the stairs" that he began in early 2017. It wasn't until November 9 that Jin Jin called Wu Yongning's stepfather and informed him of Wu Yongning's accident that the family was able to learn about it.

"I'm climbing every day, I'm playing with my life" | climbed the first person to fall to his death

In the impression of the elders, Wu Yongning was a filial child. "He said, I earned half a million yuan, so I wouldn't do it, so I would go and treat my mother."

However, Wu Yongning did not have reliable sources of information to provide enough medical evidence to show that "half a million" could cure his mother's schizophrenia. However, Wu Yongning's stepfather said that Wu Yongning had no savings before his death, let alone half a million.

"It's a pity that I didn't live my life with the person I love the most. He is kind, filial and good. Girlfriend Jin Jin said that what she admires most is his kindness and filial piety.

Wu Yongning went to Changsha to shoot a video on the 8th, and she knew it. She relayed Wu Yongning's words before her death: "If the video on November 8 has more than 100,000 likes, someone will give me 100,000 yuan. ”

Wu Yongning's WeChat public account registration information shows that the number is hung under the name of "Changsha Xingqiyuan Electronic Technology Co., Ltd." Feng Shengliang said that behind Wu Yongning's volcano small video account, Meipai account and WeChat public account, there is a common "boss", surnamed Luo. He provided the person's contact details.

Daily People searched for the registration information of "Changsha Xingqiyuan Electronic Technology Co., Ltd." and found that the company's registered mobile phone number and registrant name were completely consistent with the phone number and personal name provided by Wu Yongning's stepfather. But when he called the number, Boss Luo said, "I don't know the Wu Yongning you said," and then hung up.

Wu Yongning's family did not go to Boss Luo to pursue the claim. Kim Kim said they were all kind and "didn't understand anything."

On the day of the fall, Wu Yongning also sent a WeChat public account tweet, which read:

"Now the old iron is most worried about the safety of safety, we will show the safety equipment to everyone in the next video, safety first Wu Yongning always in the heart, thank you old iron."

Wu Yongning has mentioned many times before that he is a person who puts safety first. "Extreme sports originated in the United States in the 60s, and now both technically and equipment are relatively complete, which has a certain guarantee for safety."

However, on the afternoon of the 8th, Wu Yongning fell from the top floor of a 263-meter-high high building. From the cellphone video recording his fall, people didn't see what he called "safety equipment, or even a companion.

Before his death, Wu Yongning repeatedly said that he was immersed in the "sense of excitement" and "sense of achievement" brought about by extreme climbing. Tong Hu (pseudonym), who had recorded videos of climbing tall buildings with him, said: "Wu Yongning always did some dangerous actions and persuaded many times, but he did not listen. ”

Tong Hu said that in September this year, he met Wu Yongning, who also loves high-altitude challenges. Because of their common hobbies, the two quickly developed from a netizen relationship to a partner.

At the beginning, Tong Hu also "played" with Wu Yongning several times. "Later, he was a bit overdone, always doing things that exceeded his ability, and he couldn't be persuaded, so he didn't challenge him again." Tong Hu said he and Wu Yongning filmed a challenge video in Chongqing, then went to Wuhan and Changsha, and finally said goodbye on October 3.

"The real climbing is not for the eyeballs and benefits, the pure death of the eyeballs is really low." A climbing party in the circle commented on Wu Yongning's choice of extreme climbing, "I sympathize with his life and plight, maybe that is really his only way out, but if he really has the courage, he should face the hardships of life, not gamble like this." ”

To Wu Yongning's words before his death, "If the number of likes exceeds 100,000, someone will give me 100,000 yuan", Buck believes that this is impossible.

Buck has been practicing parkour for years and is a climber. Initially, he found climbing a building while searching for foreign parkour videos on the website, and out of interest, in early 2016, he began experimenting domestically. So far, he has climbed the tallest building in the country by more than 600 meters.

Buck said that at present, there is no unified and formal training for climbing and parkour, and the earliest group of people playing parkour is based on martial arts skills. And some people lack long-term solid parkour practice, directly challenge climbing stairs, "do more than they can do", is the cause of the tragedy.

Some climbing enthusiasts revealed to the daily people that there are two main monetization modes of climbing sports: the first is to participate in extreme photography, on the top of a unique high-rise building, take photos with a strong visual impact, these photos, can be used in commercial advertising, but the price is not high; the second, is signed by a large company such as Red Bull, and this kind of case, the country is also one of the few.

In 2012, when Austrian skydiver Felix was challenging supersonic speeds, the simultaneous live broadcast on the YouTube platform attracted 8 million views. The hot air balloons, parachute bags, and cockpits he used were all printed with the eye-catching Red Bull logo. According to people familiar with the matter, at present, only two of the domestic extreme parkour athletes have been signed by Red Bull.

The famous Austrian extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner is the world's first supersonic free-fall skydiver.

Buck told the Daily People that the accident that happened to Mr. Wu would not affect his and his friend's climbing plans — they would continue to climb the stairs, "but lately they have climbed less because of the colder weather."

"When we hear about this, we will remind each other one more: or be careful." There isn't much else to discuss. ”

The building owner initially negotiated to give Wu Yongning's family 10,000 yuan in compensation. After the family went to Changsha for local consultation, they agreed to compensate 70,000 yuan.

"We have dead people in the countryside, and it costs 60,000 yuan to do a funeral, and it costs 10,000 or 20,000 yuan to travel to Changsha." Eighty thousand was asked, and in the end seventy thousand was given. Feng Shengliang said to the Daily People.

The Daily People learned that extreme sportsmen such as the Climbing Party are not covered by conventional accident insurance. Usually in the insurance clause, the disclaimer will be listed one by one, and it is clear that the items that are not insured cannot be claimed.

Wu Yongning's death stirred up fierce public opinion. Questions about whether he is professional and what kind of responsibility the live broadcasting platform should bear in this tragic incident have been repeatedly discussed on many online platforms. On December 11, volcano video and other platforms cancelled his account, removing all "offending" videos he posted under the guise of "involving dangerous behavior." There are also many netizens who leave messages under the video originally released by Wu Yongning, requesting that the platform be suspended.

After Wu Yongning's death, Jin Jin once spoke on Weibo: if the media that exposed the video of his death did not delete all the relevant content and apologize, she would commit suicide.

The two media outlets that originally exposed the video have now deleted all relevant content on their respective accounts and apologized. However, as of the daily people's release, searching for relevant content, you will still see a lot of videos released by the self-media privately, some of which have even purchased popular recommendations on the Weibo platform for this purpose.
