Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

author:Brother Long looks at the city

The urbanization rate of Jilin is low in the three northeastern provinces, and it is necessary to further expand the scale of the city

Jilin Province, located in the middle of the northeast region of the mainland, is referred to as "Ji".

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

Jilin is an important old industrial base in the mainland, the processing and manufacturing industry is relatively developed, especially the automobile industry is famous in the world, the famous HEADQUARTERS of FAW Group is located in Jilin Province. At the same time, Jilin also has advantages in petrochemical, food, equipment manufacturing and other industries.

The northeast region has a vast and fertile land and is an important grain base on the mainland, and Jilin is no exception, with per capita grain consumption and corn exports ranking first in the country for a long time.

The terrain of Jilin Province slopes from southeast to northwest, showing obvious characteristics of high southeast and low northwest. The eastern part is mainly mountainous and hilly, the central and western parts are plains, mountainous 36%, plains account for 30%, terraces and others account for 28.2%, and the rest are hills.

With a total area of 187,400 square kilometers, Jilin now administers 1 sub-provincial city, 7 prefecture-level cities, 1 autonomous prefecture, and the Changbaishan Conservation and Development Zone Management Committee, with a total of 10 provincial directly administered administrative districts.

In 2021, the GDP of Jilin Province was 1,323.552 billion yuan, an increase of 6.6% year-on-year. In terms of growth rate, it is lower than the national average; from the perspective of total volume, it ranks 26th in the country and the lowest among the three northeastern provinces.

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

According to the data of the seventh census of Jilin Province, the total permanent population of the province is 24.703 million, ranking 24th in the country and the lowest among the three northeastern provinces.

At the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the urbanization rate of The permanent population in Jilin reached 62.64%, which is generally close to the national average, but it is far lower than that of Liaoning.

The urbanization rate of Jilin is not high, and the total population is not large, resulting in the general scale of Jilin cities.

Jilin Province proposes that by 2025, the level of urbanization in the province will reach 65%; in 2035, it will reach 75%, which is basically close to the level of medium-developed countries.

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

In order to achieve this goal, Jilin must further expand the scale of the city, by 2035 the province will build 1 megacity, 1 type I large city, 4 type II large cities, let's see which cities can be listed?

1 megacity: Changchun, just one step away from the threshold

Changchun is the capital of Jilin Province, the political, economic, cultural, transportation and other centers of the province, and has a high degree of first place in the province.

In 2021, Changchun's GDP will be 710.3 billion, accounting for more than half of the province; Changchun's permanent population is 9.06 million, accounting for more than half of the province.

Changchun is still very strong among the four major cities in the northeast, and in 2020, Changchun's GDP even surpassed Shenyang, ranking second in the northeast. However, in 2021, it was overtaken by Shenyang and fell back to the third place, but compared with Harbin in the fourth place, it is still much higher.

At the end of last year, the state announced a list of 14 megacities, and Shenyang, Dalian and Harbin in the northeast region were all on the list, and only Changchun was unsuccessful.

In fact, Changchun's urban population has reached 4.8 million, which is only one step away from the threshold of 5 million in megacities.

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

In the ten years from 2010 to 2020, although the population of Jilin Province was net outflow, Changchun City was net growth, which provided conditions for Changchun to further expand the scale of the city and build a megacity.

It is believed that in the last one or two years, Changchun can achieve the goal of a megacity.

1 Type I large city: Jilin, the same name as the province, once a brilliant city

Although it is not common for mainland cities and counties to have the same name, it is still possible to find out a lot, but jilin city is the only one in the country that has the same name in the city and province.

Jilin City is also the second largest city in Jilin Province. With a total area of 27,120 square kilometers and an urban area of 3,636 square kilometers, it has jurisdiction over 4 districts and 5 counties (cities), 2 national-level development zones, 15 provincial-level development zones and 1 provincial-level industrial concentration area.

The total registered population is 4.5 million, and the permanent population is 3.62 million, of which 2 million are urban areas.

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

Jilin City is a "larger city", and only 19 prefecture-level cities in the country have this honor, such as Tangshan and Luoyang, which represent the city's former glory.

But today's Jilin City, facing two major problems:

First, the total economic volume is not high. Although it is the second largest in the province, the GDP in 2021 is only 154.9 billion, which can only be at a medium-low level in many central and western provinces.

Second, the situation of population loss is relatively serious. From 2010 to 2020, the permanent population of Jilin City decreased by 800,000. Such a large amount of loss has a great impact on urban development.

Although the urban population of Jilin City has exceeded 2 million, according to this rate of loss, the shrinkage of the city is inevitable. In the future, only by hoping for integrated development with Changchun and stabilizing the population size of the existing urban areas, will it be possible to launch an impact on the type I large cities after the total economic volume exceeds 300 billion.

4 Type II large cities: Yanji, Siping, Tonghua, Songyuan, Liaoyuan failed

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

Type II large cities, with an urban population of 1-3 million, for the general prefecture-level cities, it should not be very difficult to achieve this goal by 2035, but for the northeast region, there is still a certain degree of difficulty.

From the perspective of the population size of the existing urban area, Yanji (580,000 people) > Siping (560,000 people) > Tonghua (500,000 people) = Songyuan (500,000 people).

The situation in these four cities is basically similar, and the urban population is between 500,000 and 600,000. Moreover, the GDP of the four cities is all less than 100 billion, but the foundations of Yanji and Siping are slightly better, and the difficulty of construction is slightly less.

The total population of Tonghua City is only 1.3 million, and if it is built as a big city, it will require 1 million people to live in the urban area, which should be said to be difficult. The next step can be achieved by removing counties and setting up districts.

Jilin will build 1 megacity, 5 large cities, 1 is about to be built, and the gap between 5 cities is relatively large

However, Liaoyuan's volume is even smaller, the total population of the city is less than 1 million, and it is not surprising that it has failed to be selected as a type II large city.
