Wang Geyi (1897--1988), a famous modern calligrapher and painter, seal engraver, and art educator. His ancestral home is Haimen, Jiangsu Province. The original name was Wang Nengxian, later changed to Wang Xian, the character Qizhi, alias Wang Yiyi. In his early years, he was good at poetry, gold stones, calligraphy and painting, and at the age of 27, he entered the door of a generation of art master Wu Changshuo, and accompanied him day and night, passing on the mantle. He has an irreplaceable position and role in the inheritance of Wu school art. He has taught in Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and other colleges, and has successively served as the vice president of the Shanghai Academy of Chinese Painting, the director of the China Artists Association, the honorary director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, the vice chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association, the vice chairman of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, and the vice president of the Xiling Printing Society. He is good at calligraphy and painting, seal engraving, and poetry. He is the author of "Album of Paintings of GeYi", "Collection of Paintings of Wang Qi", "Album of Paintings of GeYi", "Caprice of Wang Zhiyi", "Collection of Poems of Frost Tea Pavilion" and so on.
Wang's seal book comes from the "Stone Drum Text", next to the "Scattered Pan Ming", and into the "Langyatai Carved Stone", and its subordinate books are mainly from the "Zhang QianBei" and "Hengfang Stele" and refer to the seal penmanship. His calligraphy, the bones of the bones, vigorous and strong, spared the atmosphere of simplicity and ancient Mao. In his early years, he learned Fu Shan and Wang Duo, and in his later years he became more and more round and dignified, often seen in inscription paintings, which can dry and wet each other, thick and light, up and down, left and right and the picture is powerful, the words and paintings are interesting, and the secret of Wu Lao's calligraphy and painting skills is deeply rooted.
