The 9th LVMH Prize Young Designers Grand Prix, hosted by French luxury giant LVMH Group, has announced the preliminary list, and Chinese designers Chen Peng (CHENPENG) and Yueqi Qi have been shortlisted for the next round of competition.

The LVMH Prize for Young Designers is aimed at young designers under the age of 40 worldwide and requires entrants to have launched and sold at least two seasons of women's or men's ready-to-wear collections. More than 1,900 designers from around the world submitted applications and 20 brands from 13 countries were shortlisted.
For the first time, the LVMH Prize welcomed a Sri Lankan designer, Amesh Wijesekera and its genderless brand Amesh.
Chinese post-90s designer Chen Peng and his eponymous brand CHENPENG won the "2021 YU PRIZE Creative Award" in April this year, (see "Hualizhi" for details:) he is also one of the main costume designers at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics. (See "Gorgeous Chronicles" for details:)

Another shortlisted Chinese designer, Qi Yueqi, was spotted by Gucci and invited to Gucci Fest, and her brand has also entered Gucci's new online concept store Vault. (See "Gorgeous Chronicles" for details:)
At the 8th LVMH Prize, Chinese designer Zhou Rui won the Karl Lagerfeld Prize Special Award, which was shared by three designers. She is also the first Chinese designer to be finalist in the eight years since the LVMH Prize was established, and the first Chinese player to win an award in the past eight LVMH Prizes.
In Asia, in addition to Chinese and Sri Lankan designers, there are Korean designer Ashlynn Park from New York and his brand Ashlyn, Korean designer Goom Heo from London and his eponymous brand, and Japanese designer Ryunosuke Okazaki and his eponymous brand.
Among the 20 brands shortlisted, European brands accounted for half of the country, from France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium and Italy. Spanish designer Alejandro Gòmez Palomo's Palomo Spain is the second finalist, having previously participated in the 2017 LVMH Prize.
There were also 3 American brands and one African brand in the shortlist. Africa's Iniye Tokyo James will be at Milan Fashion Week next week to deliver the concept of "cultural and talent diversity" through womenswear, menswear and genderless styles.

Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President of lvmh Group, said: "We were impressed by the optimism and innovative vision of these 20 participants. They all put ecological responsibility at the heart of their creativity, opting for recycled raw materials or upcycling, willing to integrate a more ethical production system and respecting local traditional technologies. In addition, the mobility of women's and men's clothing is another major feature of this competition. ”
As last year, the public can vote for supported players through lvmhprize.com's official website. The LVMH Prize has assembled a panel of around 70 experts from which eight players will be selected to participate in the grand finals. The finalists will be announced during Paris Fashion Week in March, and the final LVMH 2022 Grand Prix will be announced this summer, with winners receiving €300,000 and Karl Lagerfeld Special Prize winners receiving €150,000. As is customary, the LVMH Group will also reward three winners of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Graduates. The winners will each receive a prize of €10,000 and the opportunity to join the creative teams of the group's brands for a year. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2022.
