In November 1984, Wuhan Diesel Engine Factory (hereinafter referred to as "Wuchai") hired Grish, an expert in engine manufacturing and core technology from Germany, as the director of the plant, and served for a term of office until November 4, 1986. Grish became the first foreign factory director hired by a domestic state-owned enterprise.

At the same time, he also stipulated that from the factory director to the management cadres, they should go to the workshop and the scene to solve problems, and could not sit in the office to direct.

On April 17, 2003, Grisch died in his hometown. On the second anniversary of Grish's death, the Wuhan Municipal People's Government held an unveiling ceremony for the bronze statue of Mr. Grish.
