From the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty, Taiwan was under the jurisdiction of Quanzhou, Fujian, and from the Yuan Dynasty to the First Century, an inspection department was set up in Penghu, and since then, the Taipeng region has been formally included in the administrative jurisdiction of the Central Plains Dynasty. However, due to the failure of the Central Plains Dynasty to use troops at sea in the early years of the Ming Dynasty, the southeast coastal defense was useless, coupled with the decline of the Ming Dynasty in the last years, it gave the Western colonists an opportunity to take advantage of it.

Zheng Chenggong was appreciated by Emperor Longwu of the Southern Ming Dynasty in his early years, and was given the same surname as the emperor, and was known as "Guo surname Ye". In 1645, the Qing army invaded Jiangnan and captured Emperor Longwu in Fujian, and the Longwu regime collapsed. Zheng Chenggong's father, Zheng Zhilong, accepted the Qing court's solicitation, and in the face of the destruction of the country and the death of the family, Zheng Chenggong refused the Qing court's persuasion and was determined to go to the road of resisting the Qing and restoring the Ming.

In 1647, Zheng Chenggong formed a huge armed force along the southeast coast, based in Xiamen and Kinmen, against the Qing army. From 1657 to 1659, Zheng Chenggong made three northern expeditions, once raiding and besieging Qingjiang ningfu (formerly Nanjing of the Ming Dynasty) by sea, and in 1655, Zheng Chenggong was crowned the King of Yanping by Zhu Youluo, the Yongli Emperor of the Southern Ming Dynasty. However, Zheng Chenggong's army was eventually repulsed by the Qing army.
