Spring has begun, let's talk about carrier pigeons with one-eyed cold
Bird blight, commonly known as "monocular cold", is an infection caused by "Chlamydiae". This pathogen is smaller than bacteria, larger than filtered viruses, susceptible to antibiotics, and is a zoonotic infectious disease that is extremely common in pigeons
symptoms
The onset of the disease is conjunctivitis, which begins to occur unilaterally, clinically feeding bird disease often occurs with other diseases, such as trichomonas, micropuses and other mixed infections, pigeon conjunctival swelling, tears, severe thick mucus, eyelid adhesion, runny nose, the rate of infection is not very fast, but will always find that sick pigeons appear, breeding pigeons often show an inconspicuous state, pigeon disease lack of vitality, loss of appetite, loose feathers, emaciation, discharge of green water, severe breathing murmurs, plus bacterial infection is complicated by pneumonia and air cystitis, young pigeons are strongly susceptible Infection is fast, and when it is severe, it will cause death, and liver and spleen enlargement can be seen during autopsy.
Scratching the eye is the first symptom of sick pigeons, usually they only scratch one eye, and the side of the head next to this eye. The conjunctiva of the eye becomes infected and begins to flush and shed tears, and the tears gradually turn into a dirty pus. Respiratory symptoms begin to appear, which are not obvious at first and become noticeable and severe later.
The pathogen then attacks the deep tissues, which in turn infects the lungs and air sacs, and the sick pigeons have symptoms of dyspnea, making occasional clicking noises and sighing sounds.
After entering the second-degree infection stage, purulent bacteria follow the inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye. In the absence of treatment, these bacteria can inflame the entire eye, which in turn destroys the eye and leads to blindness. Sick pigeons also develop the typical symptoms of loss of appetite and green stools, lose weight, become very thin and die soon after.
In addition to the complications of chlamydia pigeon disease, sometimes fungal infections (Aspergillus Fumigatus) can worsen the condition, mainly leading to necrosis and inflammation of the reticular tissues of the air sac wall and lung surface. During dissection, the lungs, balloons, peritoneum, and peritoneum are severely inflamed, and the spleen is enlarged and typically retarded.
Route of infection
Sick pigeons receive nasal fluid, saliva or feces to eliminate bacteria, and become infected by air or by eating bacterial feed and drinking water.
treat
Method 1: Respiratory tract therapeutic agent, continuous use for 5 days, discontinuation of the drug for 2 days, and supplementation of vitamins, electrolytes, and then continuous treatment for 5 days. You can also use half a tablet of oxytetracycline to compress the eyes, half a tablet is fed, and in mild cases, it can be basically cured for 2 to 3 days. For heavy cases, apply half a tablet externally, feed 1 tablet, and basically heal in 3 to 5 days.
Method 2, two capsules a day, one capsule in the morning and one in the evening, continuous medication for 3 days can be improved, 5-7 days can be cured, during which vitamins and electrolytes are supplemented.
prophylaxis
(1) Strengthen the breeding management of the loft, keep it clean and hygienic, clean the food utensils and clean the feces in time. Establish a sense of disinfection and regularly disinfect the loft.
(2) According to the conditions of their pigeon love, formulate a suitable home flight and training plan to avoid making the pigeon physically weak, leading to a decrease in immunity, and directly or indirectly causing damage to the pigeon's body. This requires us to pay attention to the observation of individual health and carefully record the situation of racing and flying.
(3) If a sick pigeon is found, isolate it immediately. Cut off the source of infection and treat alone.
(4) Regular vaccination, so far, there is no vaccine specifically for chlamydia in China, only rely on drugs for prevention.
