The game-to-TV series The Last of Us, launched by HBO, is based on Naughty Dog's 2013 PS platform classic eponymous game, with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey playing the protagonists Joel and Ellie. In a recent interview with Deadline about TCA, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys revealed that the show will not start airing in 2022 or launch in 2023.
Casey said: "I did see some of the finished parts, and [after watching it] I was quite excited. Craig (the show's creator) wrote Chernobyl, and he was a great writer and director. I'm seeing something that's outstanding, so I'm excited, but it's not going to launch in 22 years. The production team is still shooting in Canada, but I think audiences should see this work in 23 years. ”
In addition to announcing that the show won't air this year, Casey also dismissed rumors that HBO plans to make the show the next Game of Thrones: "There's no next Game of Thrones."
