- In the ski jump mixed team event, Japanese athlete Saru Takanashi was cancelled from the first round due to clothing violations. This ruling is an act of the International Snow Federation and has nothing to do with the Chinese government.
- At the Beijing Winter Olympics, Gu Ailing represented China in freestyle skiing U-shaped track skills, slope obstacle course skills and big jumping, which did not coincide with the Takali Saro competition.
Event background
Recently, a rumor circulated on social platforms that China canceled the performance of Japanese athlete Saro Takanashi and athletes from Germany, Norway and Austria for the reason of the ultra-wide 2 centimeters of ski pants, which contributed to Gu Ailing's award.
Takanashi Sara, a Japanese skier with 61 World Cup gold medals, currently ranks 6th in the world in ski jumping and is considered one of the most popular Winter Olympic stars in Japan outside of Yu yusuke. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Sarao Takanashi finished fourth in the women's standard ski jump, while at the Pyeongchang Olympics four years ago, she won a bronze medal in the event.
Why was Sarao Takanashi disqualified? Is there any basis for this claim?

Why was Takanashi Saro disqualified?
According to the official website of the Olympic Committee (olympics.com), Saro Takanashi only participated in two sub-disciplines of ski jumping at the Beijing Winter Olympics, namely the women's individual standard platform and the mixed team competition. The latter is the first event established at the Winter Olympics.

On the official website of the Olympic Committee, The participation projects of The High Pear Sharo in Beijing are introduced.
At 8:00 p.m. Beijing time on February 5, Takashi Sharo ended the final of her personal standard platform and successfully completed the competition to win the fourth place. In this competition, Peng Qingyue, a 17-year-old from Yunnan, represented the Chinese team and ranked 38th, stopping the first round.
Ski Jump Women's Standard Final Rankings
The "Takanashi Saro was cancelled" mentioned in the online news should refer to another february 7 mixed team competition controversy. In this competition, the Japanese ski team sent four players to compete, namely Saro Takanashi (female), Yuki Sato (male), Ito Yuki (female), and Ryoyo Kobayashi (male). The four players representing the Chinese team are young players Dong Bing, Peng Qingyue, Song Qiwu and Zhao Jiawen.
In the first round, Saro Takanashi came out first, jumping a brilliant score of 103.0 meters, and scored a high score of 124.5 from referees from the United States, China, the Czech Republic, Norway and Russia. But in a further ruling, the International Ski Federation (FIS) ruled that there was a clothing violation in Takanashi, "the leggings were 2 centimeters looser than the regulations," and the first round of results was canceled.
Saro Takanashi's first-round results were cancelled.
In the end, the Japanese team finished fourth with a result of 8.3 points behind Canada, and missed the medal.
Takashi Saro cried bitterly.
As soon as the news came out, Takanashi Saro fell into a huge controversy and was criticized by some Japanese netizens. Takanashi himself posted an apology statement on Instagram. She wrote: "There is no denying that my disqualification has changed everyone's life... I'm deeply sorry for making such a huge mistake... Even if I apologize, the medal will not be returned. But I do need to think further about my game. ”

In addition to Sarro Takanashi, five other athletes from Germany, Austria and Norway were also cancelled for dress violations, including Katharina Althaus, a German athlete who won silver in the women's individual standard stage competition. Arthaus was fiercely critical of the FIS ruling. She told Reuters in an interview, "In 11 years of ski jumping, I have been checked so many times and have never been disqualified. I know that my clothing is up to specification. ”
Another Norway player, Sijie Opseth, whose results were cancelled, also expressed shock and confusion at the verdict. In the previous individual standard stage event, Opsett finished sixth.
According to the International Snow Federation, when athletes stand in a standing position, the ski suit and body must be completely close, and the maximum error must not exceed 1-3 cm, and the error of women's clothing must not exceed 2-4 cm. At the beginning of the season, the Snow Federation measures and submits reports on athletes' clothing.
CNN quoted a statement from the International Snow Federation as saying that loose clothing helps runners gain more air buoyancy, a possible advantage that may cause unfair competitions. The FIS claims that all teams' clothing is strictly inspected during the competition, and this inspection is particularly strict to ensure fairness – during the Winter Olympics, the number of management and inspectors increased from one to two. "The clothing used by [the five athletes] was specially produced for the Olympic Games and, as such, had not been inspected by the FIS before." The statement reads.
What projects has Gu Ailing participated in?
At the Beijing Winter Olympics, Gu Ailing participated in three competitions: freestyle skiing, women's U-shaped track skills (halfpipe), slopestyle and big air.
On the official website of the Olympic Committee, Gu Ailing introduced the competition projects of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
On February 8, Gu Ailing represented the Chinese team in the freestyle ski jumping event and won the gold medal. Although it is a major ski event and Chinese similar in translation, freestyle skiing is different from the ski jumping that Takanashi Saro is good at. The Japanese team did not have athletes competing in the freestyle ski jump.
Introduction of Japanese freestyle skiers on the official website of the Beijing Olympic Committee.
Of the five Japanese female athletes who participated in the freestyle skiing at the Beijing Winter Olympics, only one overlapped Gu Ailing's competition. On February 17, Suzuki Saori will compete with Gu Ailing in the U-Shaped Venue Skills Qualifier.
On the morning of February 14, Gu Ailing successfully advanced to the final with the third place in the slope obstacle course qualifying competition.
In summary, Takashi Saro participated in the women's individual standard platform and mixed team competitions in the Beijing Winter Olympics. In the mixed team competition, its first round of competition results were cancelled due to the violation of the clothing too loose. This ruling is an act of the International Snow Federation and has nothing to do with the Chinese government. The athletes who represented the Chinese team in the ski jumping mixed team competition were Dong Bing, Peng Qingyue, Song Qiwu and Zhao Jiawen, who stopped in the first round and missed the final.
Gu Ailing represented the Chinese team in the freestyle ski jump, U-shaped track skills and slope obstacle course skills, and successfully won gold in the big jump. Gu Ailing and Takanashi Sharo's entries do not coincide. Therefore, the so-called "China canceled the results of Takanashi Saro ski pants on the grounds that his ski pants were unqualified, and promoted Gu Ailing to collect gold" is nonsense.
