West Lake, located in the western part of the downtown area of Tianmen City, Hubei Province, is an important urban lake in Tianmen City and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
West Lake is the birthplace of "Tea Saint" Lu Yu. The Ming Yongle Canon records that there are thirty-six lakes named "West Lake" in the country, including "Jingling West Lake". With the rise of the Lu Yu culture, the West Lake has attracted much attention as a city lake and park construction. In 2000, the Tianmen Municipal Government invested 15 million yuan to rebuild and expand Luyu Park. In September 2013, the West Lake was transformed into Lu Yu's Former Garden. The West Lake and the Lu Yu culture are integrated, and the Tang Dynasty architectural style "Lu Yu Ancient Garden" and the West Lake are integrated.
Relying on the West Lake, Lu Yu Old Garden is a theme park that highlights the characteristics of Lu Yu and tea culture and integrates natural and cultural landscapes, consisting of a belt, three lakes, three islands and four districts. There are more than 20 scenic spots in the park, such as the Chajing Building, the Lu Yu Memorial Hall, the Lingyi Corridor and the Yanming Pass, which are famous tourist attractions in Tianmen City.
The name of Tianmen West Lake is not known in what year it began, but it can be concluded from the poetry of Tea Saint Lu Yu that the name of West Lake was at least in the Tang Dynasty. Tianmen West Lake and Tea Saint Lu Yu have a deep relationship and countless beautiful legends. According to the "Chronicle of Tianmen County", in the middle of the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a Longgai Temple built on the West Lake, which was renamed Xita Temple in the Tang Dynasty, called guangdong jiaoyuan in the Song Dynasty, and still called Xita Temple in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
