Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Dubov moved with his family to Toronto, Canada, at the age of two. At a young age, she had shown extraordinary enthusiasm and talent for the arts of theatre, music, gymnastics and other arts, but she was discovered by the Toronto Talent Agency, laying the foundation for her future development, and dropped out of school in 2008 to major in sociology at Ryerson University and pursue an acting career wholeheartedly.

Majoring in sociology at Ryerson University in 2008, she decided to drop out of school and pursue an acting career. Initially, Nina was just a model, then took on commercials and was given the opportunity to audition for the film. Nina met the actor Ian Sonmohad of the show for filming "The Vampire Diaries", and the two were constantly reported by the media as falling in love because of the drama, but the two always denied it. [18]

In September 2011, Ian Sonmorehard confirmed that the two were dating,[19] but in May 2013, the two announced their breakup, ending a three-year relationship. Although the two have broken up, they will still work together to continue filming the fifth and sixth seasons of "The Vampire Diaries". [20]

Nina calmly announced her breakup in July 2016 after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend Ian Sonmohad and falling in love with American dancer Derek Hough, who won the Latin dance world championship. [21]
