According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Sports Bureau, although Wenzhou started late in ice and snow sports, it has a strong momentum of development in recent years, actively contributing to the holding of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, expanding ice and snow projects on the basis of roller skating, encouraging athletes to participate in winter sports across disciplines, and promoting the popularization and development of ice and snow sports in Wenzhou.
Wenzhou became the only pilot city in the country for sports reform run by social forces in 2017, coinciding with the critical period of preparation for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. In this context, Wenzhou has given full play to the advantages of strong private capital, supported social forces to participate in the development of ice and snow industry projects, and encouraged Wenzhou athletes to participate in ice and snow sports through selection, and achieved good results.
Wu Zhitao, a 24-year-old Wenzhou boy who was originally engaged in athletics, will participate in the Beijing Winter Olympic snowmobile event, and he also became the first person in Wenzhou to participate in the Winter Olympics. In addition to Wu Zhitao, Wenzhou also has many track and field and gymnasts who have crossed the ice and snow arena, including Lin Qinwei, Lu Kongzheng (athletics cross-steel frame snowmobile), Chen Junjie (athletics cross-boat crossing wild skiing), Zhou Xinchao (gymnastics cross-snowboarding), Wang Renjue (bungee jumping skills across snowboarding), Zhu Liangtao (gymnastics cross-snowboarding), although they did not qualify for the Beijing Winter Olympics, but contributed to the development of Ice and Snow Sports in Wenzhou.
It is worth mentioning that Fan Shan, a teacher at Wenzhou University, has played bocce ball for more than 20 years, is a "big coffee" in the domestic bocce ball industry, not only won the world championship himself, but also coached the national bocce team women's team, cultivated a number of world champions, and became one of the few national coaches in Wenzhou. In April 2018, Fan Shan resolutely chose to join the curling cross-border cross-discipline group and became an athlete, coach and team leader of the Chinese curling team. In 2020, according to the organizational arrangement, Fan Shan transferred to the Winter Games Center of the General Administration of Sport to do administrative work and continue to serve the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
In the process of promoting the development of ice and snow sports in Wenzhou, the Municipal Roller Skating Ice and Snow Sports Association has made an indispensable contribution, and it is also a full demonstration of social forces to run sports. The association was established in March 2016 as Wenzhou Roller Skating Association and changed its name in 2019. In recent years, the association has begun to implement the "rotation ice" program and carry out public welfare roller skating ice and snow into the campus. Set up a club, set up a team of 40 coaches, in more than 100 primary and secondary schools in the city to open free roller skating ice and snow courses, roller skating ice and snow is included in the physical education teaching plan of these schools, more than 5,000 students take roller skating ice and snow classes every year, roller skating ice and snow courses are well received by schools, parents and students, and actively cooperate with and respond to the "millions of teenagers participating in ice and snow projects" carried out in Wenzhou City.
The vigorous development of ice and snow sports has brought about the gradual development and growth of the ice and snow industry. At present, Wenzhou has 2 indoor ski resorts, namely Wenzhou Exotic Ice and Snow World and Wencheng Swan Castle Ski Resort; 1 outdoor ski resort, Wencheng Green Water Tip Ski Grass Ski Resort; and 1 professional ice rink, which is the champion ice rink of Wenzhou Wuyue Square. These venues are driven by social forces to run sports and take root in Wenzhou. Among them, Strange Ice and Snow World is the first indoor ski resort in Wenzhou City, all invested by social forces, and is a comprehensive sports center integrating 9 major competitive sports such as "skiing, skating, shooting, archery, rock climbing, trampoline, ice hockey, curling, and bocce ball".
In the southern region, the foundation of ice and snow sports is roller skating, the association has also held a national roller skating invitational tournament, hosted three consecutive Zhejiang Freestyle Skating Championships, Wenzhou City's first to fifth youth roller skating league a total of 24 races, and continuously organized seven Wenzhou Roller Skating Championships, creating a good roller skating atmosphere, cultivating 3 national champions and 6 provincial champions.
Wenzhou has also created conditions to actively hold and participate in ice and snow events. In December last year, the first Children's Ice Hockey Championship in Wenzhou was held at the Wuyue Square Ice Rink. More than 70 athletes in the city stood on the ice hockey arena for the first time, becoming the first batch of players in Wenzhou to participate in ice hockey events. At the "Welcome to the Winter Olympics" 2021 Zhejiang Winter Ice and Snow Series Competition held in January this year, the Wenzhou Ice and Snow Team won 2 gold and 2 bronze results. It is reported that this is the first time that our province has held an official ice and snow event, and Wenzhou has also achieved a breakthrough of zero gold medals in the ice and snow provincial competition.
In order to comprehensively promote ice and snow sports into the campus and accelerate the realization of the goal of one million teenagers in Wenzhou to participate in the ice and snow project, on January 21, the "Wenzhou Youth Ice and Snow Sports into the Campus Launching Ceremony" was held in the strange ice and snow park. The awarding ceremony of "Wenzhou Youth Ice and Snow Activity Experience Base" and "National Youth Campus Ice and Snow Sports Traditional Characteristic School" was held at the scene. At present, Wenzhou has 6 national campus ice and snow sports characteristic schools recognized by the Ministry of Education, namely Wenzhou Pushou City Primary School, Longwan District Wai Chinese Primary School, Longwan District Second Wai Chinese Primary School, Longwan District Yongxing First Primary School, Ouhai District Louqiao Donggeng Primary School and Yongjia County Shangtang Chengxi Primary School.
It is understood that Wenzhou will further increase the "integration of sports and education" to promote the development of ice and snow sports, on the basis of ice and snow sports pilot schools, will also create ice and snow sports characteristic schools through the way of "100 schools to build 100 teams". By 2025, create 100 special schools for ice and snow sports, and accelerate the realization of the goal of one million teenagers participating in ice and snow projects in Wenzhou city by 2025 through student expansion sports and research activities.
