The women's 4×5 km relay each team sent four athletes to compete. According to the rules, the first two athletes must use traditional techniques to skate, and the last two must use free techniques. The race is a group start, with the first team of the fourth team to cross the finish line winning.

From the very beginning, the match became a contest between Germany and the Russian Olympic Committee, with the two teams alternately rising in the rankings and always occupying the top two positions. Although Germany took the lead in the final stroke with a 5-second advantage in the game, thanks to veronica Stepanova's strong performance, the Russian Olympic Committee team successfully overtook the opponent and won the championship nearly 18 seconds ahead.

Germany's strong performance in the game also exceeded the expectations of the Russian Olympic Committee players. At the second and third handover of the baton, the latter is always lagging behind, and even has a tendency to be gradually pulled apart. Tatyana Solina, the third stick of the Russian Olympic Committee, said her only belief at the time was to save her teammates in the last bat.

Stepanova, who helped the team achieve a rebound, said that when she saw that the competition was so fierce, she was very nervous and worried, especially the team was behind, which made herself feel very stressed as the last stick, "but fortunately, we strictly implemented the coach's plan and deployment, and finally achieved such excellent results."

It is worth mentioning that the Chinese team, composed of Chi Chunxue, Li Xin, Ma Qinghua and Bayani Garin, finished in the final match with a final finish time of 57 minutes and 49 seconds 7, ranking 10th, surpassing the Chinese team's previous best result of 12th place at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics and creating a new history.
