The University of Bologna (Italian: Università di Bologna, Latin: Alma Mater Studiorum, English: University of Bologna, Abbreviation: Boda, Unibo) is a top international comprehensive university located in Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, founded in 1088 AD - during the Holy Roman Empire, is widely recognized in the world. The first university to have a complete university system and develop, it is known as the "mother of the world's universities". In medieval and modern Europe, where Latin was the main language of scholarship and research, the University of Bologna has always maintained a central position in the development of European culture and scholarship, and led the reform of the European university system. The official Latin school name literally translates as "Mother of The University" (Alma Mater Studiorum).

The Mother of the World's Universities , the University of Bologna

The University of Bologna in Italy is recognized as the oldest university in the world, together with the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, the University of Paris in France, and the University of Salamanca in Spain. It was founded as a two-discipline of law and medicine, and has a history of more than 900 years. In 1988, in the "Charter of European Universities", signed by the presidents of 430 European universities, the University of Bologna was officially declared the alma mater of all European universities.

In the more than 900 years of the university's history, many outstanding alumni have emerged, including Dante, a pioneer of the Renaissance era, Copernicus, an astrologer who proposed the center of the sun, and peterrac, Dürer, Erasmus, Goldoni, Marconi, Amberto Echo and other famous figures have studied or taught here.

The University of Bologna is a core member of prestigious university organizations such as the Global Alliance of Universities for Advanced Studies, the European Alliance of Research Universities, the Same European University Alliance, the International Forum of Public Universities, the Coimbra Group, europaeum, the Utrecht Network, the China-EU IES-8 Cooperation and other well-known university organizations.

It is worth noting that in the Middle Ages, this was a school where students hired teachers, which was two typical university models like the University of Paris. In the Middle Ages, universities throughout Italy, Spain, and the south of France were often modeled after the University of Bologna; students formed a committee. They hire teachers, pay salaries, and have the right to dismiss and fine teachers. The Nordic universities, modelled on the University of Paris, are the guilds of teachers.
