Is the FK 7.5mm pistol too expensive? PSD pistol to solve the problem

The Czech FKBRNO FK7.5mm pistol project was originally derived from the tactical needs of a Middle Eastern security company, in order to meet the performance requirements of an effective range of 100m, FKBRNO specially developed a unique 7.5×27mm cartridge. The article "New Look Pistol: Czech FK 7.5mm Pistol" in the 9th issue of this magazine in 2018 has a detailed introduction to the pistol and the gun cartridges used.

The concept and design of the FK 7.5mm pistol cartridge was completed in 2011, and at least 15 different shells and more than 30 warheads were tried during the development process, and the cumulative number of bullets reached 250,000 rounds in four years before the finalization. The warhead mass of this bottleneck shell pistol bullet is 6.1~6.7g, the initial speed can reach 610m/s, and the muzzle kinetic energy reaches 1200J, which is 2 to 2.5 times that of ordinary 9×19mm Balabaerum pistol bullets. The bore pressure is as high as 350 MPa, which is similar to the .357 Magnum bullet. This high-velocity, small-caliber pistol cartridge is still particularly penetrating at long distances and can penetrate IIIA-class body armor.

The FK 7.5mm pistol that fired this pistol cartridge had an empty mass of 1.3kg. It cost a staggering $7,500, about 10 times more than a normal 9mm pistol. This high-power pistol system can fill the fire gap between standard pistols and carbines in terms of power, combat effectiveness, range, and accuracy, and is said to have been adopted by special services in many countries.

The FK 7.5mm pistol is mainly used in the US market for hunting, self-defense and security purposes. However, its sales were not very successful, mainly for two reasons: one is that the gun uses a unique niche bullet, and the price of a single round is more than $1; The second is that the price of firearms is too high, and you can buy a good used car for $7500 in the United States.

Probably drawing on market feedback, FK BRNO released a new product with a polymer socket mount, named the PSD pistol. While inheriting the characteristics of its predecessor, the pistol adopts a replaceable barrel design, with three different calibers of 7.5mm, 9mm Baraberum and 10mm Auto, while selling for less than a quarter of the FK 7.5mm pistol. The pistol gives the security department and the average consumer the ability to fire more common and inexpensive bullets such as 9mm and 10mm while retaining the ability to fire 7.5mm high-power pistol cartridges.

Inheriting the FK 7.5mm pistol, the structural design is innovative

The FK PSD pistol adopts a barrel short recoil automatic method similar to the CZ75 pistol, the barrel offset locking structure, the hammer firing method, and the single-action firing.

The FK PSD pistol is 233mm long, 135mm high (without sight), 136mm long barrel and 1.1kg empty gun mass. The structural principle of the PSD pistol is the same as that of the FK 7.5mm pistol, but the socket material is changed to reinforced glass fiber polymer, which is 200g less than the FK 7.5mm made of all-steel, between the M1911 pistol and the Sig P226 pistol.

The size and positioning of the PSD pistol is similar to that of a regular military full-size pistol, but given the size of the pistol cartridge, the grip thickness of the gun is still large, similar to the grip thickness of the Glock 20 pistol (firing 10mm Auto pistol cartridges), and the 7.5× 27mm bullet is longer than the 10mm pistol bullet.

The FK PSD pistol adopts the shape style design of the Soviet period pistol, with excellent metal material and exquisite machining. There are two pairs of steel sleeve slides with a length of 15mm in the sleeve seat, and the polymer sleeve seat also assumes part of the slide rail function, and the sleeve and sleeve seat are tightly matched, and the gap is small.

The dark gray nitrided sleeve is machined with a red dot sight interface, and the front of the socket seat has been weight-reduced, but due to the structural limitations of the recoil reduction system, the size of the front and bottom of the socket seat is relatively large.

The Picatinny rail is located under the front of the socket seat for a variety of tactical accessories. The FK PSD pistol can use all the tactical accessories of the FK 7.5mm pistol, especially the folding stock. This folding stock was mainly developed for the military or law enforcement, allowing the gun to be used as a second weapon in addition to a rifle.

The gun follows the patented recoil/muzzle jump system on the FK 7.5mm pistol. In the reduced recoil/muzzle jump system, the recoil spring is located under the barrel and is located further down than conventional pistols, and there is a key large re-entry reed barrel at the front of the recoil spring, making the full gun centroid position more advanced than similar pistols. When shooting, this heavier re-entry reed barrel will follow the reciprocating movement of the sleeve, which can change the position of the center of mass of the whole gun and inhibit the muzzle beating. This unique recoil/muzzle-proof technique has been proven on the FK 7.5mm pistol.

In addition to the unique recoil/muzzle hopping system, the FK PSD pistol features a modular design of variable calibers. In addition to the company's unique 7.5mm barrels, the company was supplied with an additional set of 9mm Balabarum or 10mm Auto barrels. Among them, the barrel life of the 7.5mm caliber is 20,000 rounds, and the barrel life of other calibers is 30,000 rounds.

The FK PSD pistol has a modular design and replaceable barrel

The gun comes standard with a replaceable caliber barrel, and consumers can choose a 9mm or 10mm version according to their own needs, of course, they can also add money to add. The 10mm barrel is also compatible with firing .40 S&W cartridges. Because the 9mm Baraberum cartridge is less powerful than both the 10mm Auto and 7.5mm cartridges, the 9mm barrel is chosen with a smaller recoil spring in addition to the two magazines. On top of that, no special tools are required to replace the barrel, and the process only takes about 1 minute.

Although the grip size of the pistol is larger, the manual safety is relatively small and somewhat inconvenient to operate. The magazine is still made of metal, and the grip has a small skirt at the bottom for quick insertion of new magazines.

The FK PSD pistol has a fast variable caliber capability

The trigger force is about 18N, the shot is crisp, the trigger feel is as good as the CZ75 pistol, and it can play the advantages of the 7.5mm bullet very well. The manual safety is located above the left rear of the socket seat, and the front end is pulled to the bottom to remove the insurance state, at which time the red dot on the socket is exposed to prompt the user; The front end is pulled to the top in a safe state, and the sleeve is locked and cannot be pulled back.

Ghost ring mechanical sight aiming effect

In addition to the miniature red dot sights that can be installed in various mainstream models, the FK PSD pistol also provides a variety of special mechanical sights: the crosshairs have FK diamond type (FK DIAMOND), FK precision type (FK PINPOINT) and other styles; The doors are available in FK RING SIGHT, notched and butterfly-shaped styles. The FK precision crosshair is used with a butterfly-shaped illumination and a notched illumination, and the FK diamond crosshair is used with a ghost ring illumination. The butterfly-shaped shot allows the shooter to gain a wider viewing angle, allowing for accurate shooting at long distances. The larger hole in the ghost ring door facilitates quick aiming when shooting at close range, while the FK diamond crosshair guarantees the gun's accuracy at long distances.

How well does it perform? Measured data to prove it

In the accuracy test, the precision crosshair is used with a notched illumination door, and at a distance of 22.9 m (25 yards), three different 7.5 mm projectiles are fired, and the diameter of the dispersion circle is about 25.4 mm. When using the Triggicon SRO micro red dot sight, a 91.4 m (100 yards) distance is fired with a supported shot, firing a copper 7.5 mm air-tipped bullet with a warhead mass of 6.2 g, and a dispersion circle diameter of 102 mm. From the above tests, we can see that the accuracy of the FK PSD pistol is indeed very good.

The manual fuse size is slightly smaller

Moreover, the muzzle jump when shooting is indeed smaller than expected, and the recoil is similar to that of the pistol that fires the .45 ACP pistol bullet, and there is no great impact. The non-slip texture design and ergonomic design of the socket seat are also comfortable and reasonable. The trigger stroke is short and there is a sense of feedback when the trigger is reset. Therefore, it can be said that the FK PSD is a relatively easy to control product in high-power pistols.

The market outlook is better than that of the FK 7.5mm pistol

FK PSD pistol sleeve and socket holder lifetime warranty, other wear parts 2 year warranty. Although the price is much cheaper than the FK 7.5mm pistol, it is still a high-end product. FKBRNO tried to bring the PSD pistol into the global market, either as a hunting pistol or as a combat pistol for military and police purposes. FK PSD relies on its unique variable caliber system, and the cost of training and use will be reduced at a later stage. Overall, the market outlook for the gun is certainly better than the FK7.5mm.
