Haruka Ayase's "Listening to War" aired on August 6 and 15

A new chapter of NEWS23's special project,"Ayase Haruka Listens to War," began airing on August 6 and 15 at 11 p.m. The show features interviews and materials by actress Haruka Ayase who witnessed the war. On the 6th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, "Tenjincho on August 6, 1945", which was filmed in Hiroshima, the hometown of Haruka Ayase, will be broadcast. On the 15th of the anniversary of the end of the war, the broadcast of "Back to Tokyo: Memories of Those Who Witnessed the Siberian Detention Incident" will be extended for twenty minutes.

"Tenjincho, August 6, 1945" tells the story of the Hiroshima City Government, which began research on the Peace Memorial Park four years ago in order to recreate the streets destroyed by the atomic bomb. Ms. Ayase interviewed women who live in Tenjincho in the Memorial Park.

Back to Tokyo: Memories of Those Who Experienced the Siberian Detention Incident is about the detention of 600,000 Kwantung soldiers who attacked Chinese mainland after the war and were tricked into returning to Tokyo, but were actually detained in Siberia at a minimum temperature of minus 40 degrees. Nearly one in ten people die of cold and starvation. Ayase personally went to Kyoto's Maizuru District, where most of the witnesses lived, and interviewed those whose average age was 96. Ayase will also appear on TV shows.

Ayase said: "This time I listened to the Siberian detention. In the cold and hunger, they were forced to work. Companions also died one after another. Their experience was so brutal. Mr. Yasuda, who told me the story, said it was difficult for others to understand the pain of war. But as someone who has heard of this painful experience, I want to tell as many people as possible who don't understand war. (Tsubaki/Translation)
