Jan van Tetering, senior vice president of Nokia Europe, said in an interview that the industry should overcome the new network complexities associated with Open RAN and make adoption of the technology a reality, but acknowledged that it is too early to judge whether the technology will become mainstream.

Nokia Executive: Open RAN is unstoppable

He said in an interview that the use of the Open RAN architecture is overwhelming, and although it has broad support, there is no conclusive as to when or to what extent operators will deploy the architecture.

In the Nokia executive's optimistic assessment of the outlook for Open RAN, he noted that Open RAN is backed by governments, operators and the vendor itself, noting that the technology "will certainly become a radio tool that they (operators) use in their business footprints." ”

Nokia has taken various steps to consolidate its position in the new ecosystem, joining various Open RAN industry organizations and participating in carrier trials, which are critical to assessing the quality of Open RAN and potential problems.

"The Open RAN architecture is more complex than the current classic architecture." Jan van Tetering points out. "We spend a lot of time understanding and managing this complexity. That's why we're seeing a lot of experiments going on, trying to understand what added value is and trying to get the ecosystem up and running. ”

"If I said that Nokia's business wasn't going to change anything, it would sound arrogant. Open RAN is a technological development, and as a technology company, we have to embrace it. The future will prove whether we have accepted it in the right way to meet the needs of our customers. He said.

"As a technology company, we are not afraid of evolution or technological disruption, in fact, we are also subverting as we move forward." Jan van Tetering said, "I believe that our customers will ultimately choose the supplier with the best performance, the most secure and reliable, and I think Nokia will do well in these areas in the future."
