01

In recent years, several films on the theme of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea have been made, but so far, there has not been a single film about the Volunteer Air Force, which cannot but be said to be a pity.

In the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the Air Force of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army went through a process from scratch, from small to large, from not being valued by the enemy to making the enemy feel frightened!

The young Volunteer Air Force used the most powerful U.S. Air Force in the world at that time as a whetstone to sharpen its own sword.

In the past two years, everyone has watched films such as "Chosin Lake" and "Watergate Bridge", and may have a deep impression of the rampant rampage of AMERICAN air bandits, but that was the situation in the early stages of the war, and in the middle and late period, the Volunteer Air Force gradually grasped the air supremacy north of the 38th Line, like the movie "King Kong River" to the stage of the Jincheng Counterattack Before the Armistice in 1953, the US Air Force still wantonly bombed and strafed our bridge-building troops, and there was no trace of the Volunteer Air Force at all, which is not in line with historical facts.

In the process of growing and growing, the Volunteer Air Force has produced many combat heroes, and Zhang Jihui, a "first-class combat hero", is one of the famous ones.

Zhang Jihui's example of shooting down davis, the ace pilot of the US Air Force, can be said to be a "peak showdown" in the true sense, very thrilling, and can be made into a wonderful movie.

First, let's introduce Zhang Jihui.

Zhang Jihui, a native of Shandong. Born in 1927 to a poor peasant family, he joined the Eighth Route Army in April 1945 and entered the first branch of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University, joining the Party in November of the same year.

In December 1945, shortly after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhang Jihui went to Mudanjiang in the northeast and began to learn to fly.

Throughout the Liberation War, as a forward-looking arrangement, Zhang Jihui and his comrades-in-arms have been learning to fly and serving as aviation school instructors, and they are the first generation of pilots of the new China and the people's air force cultivated by the party.

Shortly after the founding of New China, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea broke out.

In 1951, Zhang Jihui, as a member of the Air Force of the Chinese Volunteer Army, went to Korea to participate in the war, and soon wrote a brilliant chapter of her life in a thick and thin way.

70 years ago today, on February 10, 1952, Zhang Jihui shot down the F-86 fighter jet piloted by major Davis, the ace pilot of the US Army, in an air battle, and Davis was also killed at the same time.

After achieving this outstanding result, Jang Ji-hye continued to fight on the Korean front.

During the entire War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Zhang Jihui participated in air battles on many occasions, achieved the record of shooting down 4 enemy planes and injuring 1 aircraft, and was awarded the titles of "Air Hero," "Air Commando," and "Combat Hero of the First Class" by the Headquarters of the Volunteer Army.

After the end of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Zhang Jihui continued to serve in the People's Air Force, successively serving as regimental commander, division commander, army commander, and deputy commander of the Air Force, making major contributions to the defense of national defense and the building of the People's Air Force.

Today, the old hero Zhang Jihui is the only surviving Chinese Volunteer Army first-class combat hero, and he is a needle-like existence that can bring us a sense of security.

Let's talk about the downed Davis.

George Andrew Davis, Jr., born on December 1, 1920 in Texas, known for his cowboy production, did act like a "cowboy in the air," unruly and pretentious.

After Pearl Harbor, Davis joined the U.S. Military and participated in the Pacific War, flying 266 battles and shooting down 7 Japanese aircraft, ranking among the ace pilots.

Davis was originally a piston fighter pilot, and after World War II, he modified the jet fighter. He was a highly skilled man and was a member of the Air Dance Performance Team, the predecessor of the U.S. Air Force's Thunderbird Show Team.

After the outbreak of the Korean War, Davis served as the squadron leader of the 334 interceptor squadron of the 4th Wing of the Fifth Army of the UNITED Air Force, and his fighting style was fierce and cunning, and he fought more than 60 times in a few months and shot down 14 aircraft, posing a great threat to the young Volunteer Air Force.

One of Davis's most arrogant air battles took place on November 30, 1951.

On this day, the Volunteer Air Force sent a group of nine Du-2 bombers to bomb Yamato Island, which was held by the US and Lee troops, but due to the early turn and the high downwind speed at that time, the aircraft group reached the turning point originally scheduled to meet the MiG-15 escort formation 5 minutes early, and as a result, it had to fly to Yamato Island under the protection of only the propeller fighter Ra-11 aircraft group, and suffered heavy losses after being intercepted by the US F-86 aircraft group.

Davis took part in the Yamato Island Air Battle, where he single-handedly shot down three Du-2 bombers and shot down one MiG-15 fighter that had joined the air battle, reaching the pinnacle of his personal air combat career!

After the end of this air battle, Davis was praised by the US media as the "Ace Pilot with the highest record in the US Military" on the Korean battlefield, Lieutenant General Willand, commander of the US Far East Air Force, called him "Davis who never tires of fighting a hundred battles", and General Vandenberg, chief of staff of the US Air Force, also sent a special telegram from the Pentagon to congratulate him.

Davis could have "rushed back to the U.S. before Christmas to reunite with his family" as planned, but the Texas cowboy, who had been overwhelmed by the so-called victory, decided to stay on the Korean battlefield and set his own record, and he seemed to really believe the joke that others flattered him: "No MiG plane can shoot down Davis!" ”

But his end was coming.

04

On the morning of February 10, 1952, several batches of US planes invaded the skies over the Sareon and Gacheon areas of Pyongyang, North Korea, and bombed the local railway line. Davis was one of them, flying the then advanced F-86 fighter jets for cover missions.

A total of 34 MiG-15 fighters from 2 regiments of the 4th Division of the Volunteer Air Force were ordered to fly rapidly to the theater, and Zhang Jihui, then commander of the 3rd Brigade of the 12th Regiment, was one of them.

In the course of the air battle, Zhang Jihui and his wingman pilot Shan Ziyu broke away from the formation due to the search for enemy aircraft, and on the way back to the formation, suddenly 8 enemy planes swooped down from the clouds in their right rear, and the two led by them had already pounced on their tails. Zhang Jihui directed Shan Ziyu to suddenly make a right turn and rise, causing the US machine to pounce. Zhang Jihui and Shan Ziyu took advantage of the situation to bite the enemy long plane - this long plane, it is Davis!

The other enemy planes saw that Davis was in danger and swarmed up in an attempt to break the siege. However, Under the cover of Shan Ziyu, Zhang Jihui increased the throttle to directly attack Davis, firing 3 shots in a row at a distance of 600 meters from the enemy plane, shooting Davis down. Immediately afterward, Zhang Jihui continued to exert his efforts, clinging to another enemy plane that was trying to escape, firing at a distance of 400 meters from the enemy plane, and then hitting it into a volley and exploding.

It was a fierce air battle between the enemy and the enemy, and it ended in less than two minutes. Unfortunately, in the ensuing air battle, Shan Ziyu was also hit by enemy aircraft and died heroically. Zhang Jihui's landplane was seriously injured by the enemy plane, and after he parachuted, he landed safely and was rescued by the field patrol of our volunteer army.

Around the same time, the field patrol found the wreckage of an American F-86 aircraft, the body of a pilot, and relics on a hillside north of Sanguang-ri in Bona County. Among the relics are: a Colt-type police revolver, a fighter heading machine gun, a helmet, a military number plate, etc.

Lü Pin, then political commissar of the 447th Regiment of the 149th Division of the 50th Army of the Volunteer Army, commanded the search and rescue operation at the scene. Since then, he has maintained a friendship with Zhang Jihui, and one day in 2019, the two elderly people were reunited in Beijing, and I was honored to listen to their stories at that time.

Political Commissar Lu said that that morning, he was holding a meeting in the combat duty room when he suddenly heard the sound of machine guns in the air, and was soon reported by the three battalions that there was a plane crashing near the battalion headquarters, and he immediately ordered the battalion to enter the preset position and send several groups of detachments to search from different directions for the place where the plane fell.

Then the call came, "The soldiers found an American F-86 and the wreckage of a U.S. pilot at the site of the crash; they also found a revolver, a belt containing bullets, the casing was chrome-plated and white polished; and a large horn pistol, a flight hat, and a stainless steel badge." ”

At the same time, Zhang Jihui was also discovered by the soldiers, "At that time, a battalion reported that a pilot had parachuted over the camp headquarters, and the soldiers rushed over to see a strong pilot sitting on the ground, looking up at the sky. Commissar Lu said that at first everyone thought it was an American pilot, "At that time, the instructor of the Second Company, Ai Weiren, still shouted at him in English, but when he looked closer, it was our own pilot." ”

Commissar Lu laughed and said that he asked the cooker to cook a large bowl of noodles for Zhang Jihui, but Zhang Jihui was most concerned about checking the wreckage of the US military plane.

Later, Zhang Jihui, accompanied by Lü Pin, went to the scene of the Davis crash and brought Davis's pistol back to the army as a trophy. The pistol is now stored as a national first-class cultural relic at the Beijing Military Museum.

The twists and turns of history are that this battle was initially regarded as an ordinary air battle, and although there was a huge disparity in strength (I had two aircraft against eight aircraft of the US army), fang Ziyi, commander of the Fourth Air Division, was not satisfied with the 2:2 "draw" at that time, because the United States had a strong industrial production capacity, and the loss of aircraft could be quickly replenished, but every MiG fighter of our army had to rely on the people of the whole country to shrink their clothes and food, and even squeeze money from between their teeth to buy. Therefore, he did not commend Zhang Jihui, but only instructed him to summarize the battle as soon as possible.

A few days later, when the U.S. side suddenly claimed that Davis was missing during the February 10 air battle, we realized that we might have achieved a major result in shooting down the Ace Pilot of the U.S. Army. Liu Yalou, commander of the Air Force, immediately sent a telegram to the Air Liaison Division and the Fourth Air Division to verify the results of the battle, and the conclusion was quickly out - Zhang Jihui killed Davis.

Guo Songmin | Zhang Jihui's sword and whetstone

Davis, the star and soul of the US Far East Air Force, was killed! This result shocked the world.

The arrogance of the U.S. Air Force on the Korean battlefield was suddenly replaced by a fog of sorrow. Far East Air Force Commander Willan issued a "special statement" to this effect, lamenting that Davis' shooting down was "a tragic failure" and "a major blow to the U.S. Far East Air Force."

05

When Zhang Jihui shot down Davis, Davis was 32 years old, in the U.S. Air Force and the United States, with the aura of an ace pilot on his head, like a Hollywood star, and there would be cheers and flowers everywhere he went.

Zhang Jihui is 25 years old, and at this time little is known. He was low-key and humble, like Wei Lao described in the article "Who is the most lovely person", like "a simple red sorghum" in the northern field.

Jang Ji-hye (left) and his comrade-in-arms Mou Dunkang (right), who died in the Korean battlefield air battle. Zhang Jihui shot down Davis, which is equivalent to avenging the sacrifice of his comrades!

With this as a starting point, Zhang Jihui grew into a protective sword, and Davis, fortunately or unfortunately, made Zhang Jihui's whetstone!

The duel between Zhang Jihui and Davis and their different fates have both accident and inevitability, and the decisive factor behind it is the victory of the just war!

The power of justice will surely lead to strength, and the unjust force, no matter how armed to the teeth, will inevitably fall.

Today, 70 years later, in the context of the frequent appearance of US ships and aircraft in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea, revisiting this story and feeling even more resentful, it was really an era of heroes.

Look forward to one day, from the screen, to see the young Chinese eagle from the other side of the ocean to beat the bald eagle from the other side of the ocean to the footage! I am convinced that the effect of this movie is not a miserable "good cry" and "tear running", but to make every Chinese feel raised and sighed when they see it.

The day davis was shot down, Zhang Jihui himself died nine times! So, from now on, he made this day his birthday.

Today, we wish the old hero Zhang Jihui a happy birthday, health and longevity!
