The little girl, Narmada, was playing with friends by a river near a village in Uttar Pradesh when a swarm of monkeys attacked her. The children shouted for help, and local villagers quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the injured girl from the monkeys. But she was bitten by a monkey and had "bites almost everywhere" on her body, and although she was rushed to the hospital, she eventually died of her injuries.

Narmada, the youngest of three children in the family, told The Times of India: "These monkeys are very aggressive and they bite my daughter and injure her. When I arrived at the scene, my daughter was crying for help." The local police officer said on the 9th that according to the relevant laws, the family has been compensated, "the local people asked to catch the monkeys, but we suggested that they seek help from the forestry department and the village committee office."
India is believed to be home to around 50 million primates, and the brutal attack is the latest in a string of monkey-related tragedies in India, according to the Daily Mail. In 2018, a 58-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh was attacked by a monkey in front of her home, seriously injured and killed. In 2019, a 50-year-old man was attacked by a monkey and fell off the balcony of his home and subsequently died. In 2020, a group of monkeys knocked down a wall and a mother and her four children were crushed to death at their home in Uttar Pradesh. In the village of Magargan in Maharashtra last December, villagers watched in horror as monkeys dragged their dogs to their roofs and tree tops and threw them down, killing 250 dogs.
