It was Jota's substitute who eventually beat Leicester City. Salah may have been Liverpool's favourite – he may have scored his own hat-trick that night – but if he wants a third Premier League Golden Boot, his biggest challenge is likely to come from his Portugal team-mates.
If he now scores 17 goals in all competitions, 12 of them in the league, many of them are decisive.
It was his 10th first goal of the season for Liverpool. His restrictive-zone abilities, whether on his feet or his head, can match anyone around him.
"I just want to keep helping the team," Jota told BT Sport afterwards. He's definitely doing that.
Not only was his goal vital to Klopp's construction at Anfield, but the whole package; hunger, tenacity, sensitivity, hard work, willingness to work and sacrifice.
He was there, scoring a last-minute header from Leicester City's corner in the 90th minute.
He was there, chasing a cause of defeat in stoppage time, forcing Daniel Amatti to unblock the ball when he wanted to do anything. Klopp praised this more than he praised any of Jota's goals.
"We knew he was good," the manager said in a post-match news conference. "But now we don't know where his limits are."
Diaz also looks like he's tailor-made for this Liverpool team. It may be too early, but the Colombian already looks like he will be hugely popular in Merseyside.

He gave a standing ovation against Cardiff on Sunday, and when he was replaced by Takumi Minamino in the final stages of the match against Leicester, he was left with only one.
He deserves it too; with the Premier League debut, it's a fantastic game and hopeful.
"He loves this game," Klopp said with a laugh.
Diaz may be disappointed that he didn't limit his performance with goals – he had at least two good chances – but he certainly made a big impression in the first week.
Just like Jota, its packaging looks so impressive. Diaz runs, he races, he connects races, he looks like he's going to support himself.
He often puts himself in a good position and he looks like a player who is grateful for giving him a chance.
