On July 5, the Guangxi Fangchenggang Border Management Detachment informed the outside world that recently, the Naliang Border Police Station of the detachment cracked a case of smuggling precious animals and their products, in which a total of 6267 dried seahorses and 136 totoaba fish glue in the Gulf of California were seized, with a total case value of 5.24 million yuan.
At about 10:00 a.m. on May 11, when the police of the defense city border patrol team of the detachment were on duty at the border line of Nara Town, they found an electric tricycle driving out of the border line path, and the car was loaded with suspected smuggled items. The police quickly pursued, found that the tricycle was finally parked in a house, the items on the car have been transferred, the police from a nearby off-road vehicle to search out 3 bags of fish glue, and in the kitchen of the house searched out a bag of dried seahorse, while arresting 2 suspects suspected of shipping the goods. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the Nara Border Police Station for handling.
After inventory and identification, the batch of dried seahorses has a total of 6267 stems, with a case value of 940,000 yuan, and the seahorses are listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which is a national second-level protected wild animal; the batch of fish glue has a total of 136 fish glues, which are dried products of totoaba maw in the Gulf of California, with a case value of 4.3 million yuan, and the Gulf of California totoaba is listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which is a national first-level protected wild animal. After investigation, the criminal suspects in the case, Liao X and Lin X, were hired by others to smuggle dried seahorses and fish glue into the country in order to obtain benefits, and both of them confessed to their criminal acts.
On June 30, the suspect Lin was arrested with the approval of the Fangcheng District People's Procuratorate, and Liao was criminally detained in May, and the case is under further investigation.

Article 151 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China
[Crime of Smuggling Precious Animals and Precious Animal Products] Whoever smuggles precious animals and their products, whose import or export is prohibited by the State, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years and shall also be fined; if the circumstances are particularly serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years or life imprisonment and shall also be sentenced to confiscation of property; if the circumstances are less serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years and shall also be fined.
