In June, we did a cover story for "Shoes", one of which I wrote about "Pretty Lady in the Wind and Moon", Julia Roberts played a call girl in the film, she was eye-catching and urgently tamed, highlighting her two characteristics by blonde curls and PVC patent leather over-the-knee boots, which are shiny and erotic, and this pair of boots undoubtedly strengthens the heroine's personality.

When I saw the bright red boots on Queen of Boots, I immediately thought of Julia Roberts' boots. But "Pretty Lady of the Wind and Moon" tells the story of sparrows turning into phoenixes, which was a popular theme in the 90s, and after Diana's death, people are even more nostalgic for the toughness and bravery created by the princess of the commoners.
The story of "Boots" was first known in 2005, when British director Julian Jarrold made a film of the same name, adapting the real events of the shoe factory revitalization, and in 2013, Broadway adapted the story into a musical, which attracted special attention, and the LGBT community is becoming the masters of the world. In addition to music and choreography, I think its popularity is inseparable from the background of the story, which is about: reconciliation with yourself.
The male protagonist, Charlie, knows from an early age that he has to be the heir of the family business, and when he takes over, the shoe factory is in jeopardy. The turning point comes in a bar encounter where he meets Lola, a drag queen who gives Charlie design inspiration: sexy, glamorous, and high heels that drag queens can wear. The encounter brought changes to both of them, they designed shoes together, and gradually recognized each other, not only the shoe factory became famous, but most importantly, both began to accept themselves.

Lola shines brightly on stage, but she takes off her boots, changes back into men's clothes, and enters the real world, still an inferior boy who has not been recognized by her father. It just happened to be the opposite relationship between Chandler and his disguised queen father in "Friends". As a Grade 10 scholar of Friends, I can immediately recall at least two scenes. One is that before Chandler and Monica get married, Monica drags the reluctant Chandler to the show bar where his father works and invites him/her to the wedding, Monica is hesitant to say it, and it is funny not to know whether to call Sir or Madame.
There is also a scene at the wedding, where his father really came, and naturally met Chandler's mother, the two of them tit-for-tat, the father teased, "aren't you a little too old forthat dress", the mother immediately replied, "don't you got a little too muchpenis for that dress". (Probably so, don't write Chinese, make up for it yourself).
In short, my cross-dressing queen knowledge point was originally from "Friends", and Chandler's pocket money when he was a child was earned for his father and his drag-and-change girlfriends. So I actually have an inexplicable affinity for them, and they live a lot more than we do, at least, they have long understood "who I am" and found their place in this world.
Maybe young audiences, the original (correct) understanding of cross-dressing, can come from this Broadway musical.
I would like to send 8 tickets to readers in Beijing, and the screening method is to comment on what kind of film and television works you first know about "cross-dressing performance" or "drag queen", or, you can also tell me about the last time you forgave yourself, under what circumstances.
You can add a parenthesis at the end of the comment and write "1" or "2" so I know if I'm giving you one ticket or two. I do this a lot because sometimes I don't necessarily find the person who can go to the theater with you, and I often can't find it.
Example: My knowledge of cross-dressers comes from Chandler's father in Friends (1).
