At last night's double bobsleigh final at the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Chinese duo Huang Yebo/Peng Junyue made their debut, and they finished 17th. Although there is still a significant gap between the results and the world-class level, this pair has achieved China's goal of participating in the Winter Olympics for the first time.

In this Chinese group, Peng Junyue is an authentic "Guangdong boy". As the only Guangdong male athlete to participate in the Winter Olympics, Peng Junyue wrote a new page in Guangdong's ice and snow sports.

Active by nature

I was supposed to be a basketball player

Peng Junyue was born in 2000, his hometown is in Lingshan, Leicheng Street, Leizhou. At the age of 9, he returned to Leizhou with his family to attend school, and studied at Zhanjiang No. 8 Middle School in junior high school and high school.

In the view of his father Peng Dongqing, Peng Junyue was very naughty when he was a child, but he worked seriously and had an independent personality. In junior high school, Peng Junyue successfully entered the basketball team of Zhanjiang No. 8 Middle School because of his excellent physical fitness. Peng Junyue said that he did not know that he had athletic talent, but he was very active since he was a child and could not idle. When he came into contact with basketball, at first he did not think how well he would practice, but more of the pleasure of scoring goals, physical collisions, and winning with teammates.

The team's schedule is very regular, every day from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm is a fixed training time, regular training and life so that Peng Junyue's technology and strength by leaps and bounds. In the basketball team, Peng Junyue is very cheerful, 1.8 meters tall, he is not tall on the basketball court, but he is the most flexible and courageous one. As a defender, basketball coach Song Kun positioned him as an assist, but he always likes to shoot from a distance and often shoots. "It's explosive and coordinated." Song Kun commented on the disciple in this way.

After two years, Peng Junyue gradually grew into the main force of the basketball team, and in 2015, he represented Zhanjiang City in the Basketball Tournament of the Guangdong Provincial Games. According to the general development path, the greater the probability that Peng Jun will become a professional basketball player, but fate has made a "joke" with him.

Unintentional willow cutting

Accidentally selected by the national team toboggan

Like many guangdong-born children, Peng Junyue had never seen real snow before the third year of junior high school.

In 2015, the Chinese National Bobsleigh Team was established. In the summer of 2016, the Winter Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sport selected bobsleigh athletes for the whole country, and when he first went to Zhanjiang to select reserve talents for the Winter Olympic Games, Peng Junyue received attention. Later, Peng Junyue received a call from Song Kun and asked him to try the national team selection. "At the time, I thought I was choosing a basketball player, but I didn't think much about it and went." Peng Junyue said.

After arriving in Beijing, Peng Junyue was very surprised, and it turned out that he had participated in the selection of the bobsleigh project. He had never even seen snow, and he had no idea what a sled was. However, Peng Junyue, who was bold by nature, did not flinch. During the selection, the sleigh with wheels slid on the road, and Peng Junyue really saw the "half look" of the sled. Although it was the first contact, Peng Junyue felt that "this sport is very interesting and exciting." After the selection, he was confident that he would be selected. "I asked my parents if they could let me go if I was chosen, and my father said that if I chose, I would try it."

Sure enough, Peng Junyue successfully passed the selection and became the first Zhanjiang person to be selected for the national ice and snow sports project. Song Kun also supported Peng Junyue's choice, "Although he was the main player of the team at that time, the national team was definitely better than us here. ”

4 years of hard work

Grow into a two-person project

After being selected for the first Chinese national bobsleigh team, Peng Junyue started from scratch. Compared to the popular sport of basketball, sledding is not only niche but also much more dangerous. In the process of training and competition, Peng Junyue did not suffer less, especially when he often crashed when he was sliding on the ice at the beginning, and skin and flesh injuries were commonplace. However, at the thought of having the opportunity to represent the Chinese team in the Winter Olympics, Peng Junyue gritted his teeth and persevered.

After arriving in the north, the only thing Peng Junyue couldn't stand was the cold, living in Zhanjiang all year round, he had never been to such a cold place. Song Kun often encouraged Peng Junyue by phone: "You are a southerner, and others have been exposed to ice and snow since childhood, so you must be very determined." We who do sports, not only practice, but also have goals, mixed days is not enough. With the encouragement of his mentor, Peng Junyue's training state is getting better and better.

There are many foreign coaches in the bobsleigh team, peng Junyue trains during the day and learns English at night. "Hard work is certain, injuries are inevitable, such as breaking a layer of skin, finger deformation, etc. are small injuries." However, since you have chosen this sport, you must grow and be more tenacious, and only in this way can you conquer the track. He said.

In the past few years, Peng Junyue has followed the national team to Germany, Austria, Latvia, Canada, Norway, the United States, Switzerland and other places to carry out training. After the cross-discipline selection in May 2018, the bobsleigh national team selected male and female athletes from all over the country from track and field, kayaking, weightlifting, judo to join the training, and the team was further strengthened. After nearly four years of training and practical training in the national team, Peng Junyue and his partner Huang Yebo gradually grew into the main force of the chinese national bobsleigh team's double sports.

Debut at the Winter Olympics

Make a breakthrough for Guangdong ice and snow

In 2019, Peng Junyue signed a contract with Shenzhen Nanshan District Sports School and Shenzhen Amateur Sports School, and settled in Shenzhen and became a Shenzhen athlete.

At the 2nd China Bobsleigh Championships held in March 2019, Peng Junyue and his teammates won the gold medal in the double bobsleigh event in one fell swoop, becoming the first national gold medal in his personal sports career.

In the bobsleigh event of the 14th National Winter Games of China held in October 2019, Peng Junyue won the men's double bobsleigh and team relay events, achieving a gold medal "zero breakthrough" for Guangdong in the history of the National Winter Games.

As a bobsleigh athlete from the southernmost part of China, Peng Junyue's ability to stand on the Winter Olympics has been a success and inspiration, bringing a breakthrough to guangdong ice and snow sports.

In recent years, Peng Junyue has had little time to visit his family, and he often thinks about his favorite Zhanjiang seafood and Zhanjiang chicken, but he secretly turns his homesickness into a motivation for preparing for the Winter Olympics.

"This is the first time that the Chinese bobsleigh team participated in the Winter Olympics as the host, and it is also the first time that the Chinese bobsleigh team appeared in the Winter Olympics. We are competing with high-level athletes from all over the world and witnessing the new history of bobsleigh in China, and I am very proud and proud!" He said, "I will continue to prepare for the group relay project, hoping to achieve better results." ”
