Never get a chance! Hong Kong media: Bypassing the two sides of the strait, the Taiwan authorities cannot enter the CPTPP

On the 8th, the DPP authorities announced that five counties, including Fukushima, Japan, would lift the ban on food exports to Taiwan, saying that this move would help Taiwan to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Taiwan's opening up to "nuclear food" in exchange for joining the CPTPP has recently become the focus, and if this is the real dream of the Taiwan authorities and ordinary people, it will be disappointed.

The CPTPP was formerly known as The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). After the United States officially withdrew from the TPP in January 2017, Japan became the main driver of this regional economic and trade organization. According to the system design of the CPTPP, from the establishment of a working group for new members to join in the early stage of membership, to the final decision on whether to agree to accept new members, the consensus of all members must be approved, as long as one party opposes it.

The rotating presidency of the CPTPP this year is Singapore. An analytical article in Lianhe Bao on the 9th believes that whether Taiwan's membership can form a working group, Singapore's "positiveness" will be the key. In addition, among the members of the CPTPP, Peru and Brunei are considered to be "pro-China", and most of the other countries or regions do not want to choose sides between the two powers of China and the United States. Therefore, the Taiwan authorities' reliance on Japan's support alone is not enough to accomplish anything, and cross-strait relations are even more a glass ceiling that Taiwan cannot avoid if it wants to enter the international community.

This is Taiwan's international situation, and the DPP authorities will not fail to understand it. It is not so much to open up the "nuclear eclipse" in exchange for joining the CPTPP, but to please the United States and Japan and confront the Chinese mainland.

Chinese Kuomintang Vice Chairman Lian Shengwen said very directly on the 9th, "The DPP's so-called opening of Japan's nuclear food is to obtain tickets to join the CPTPP, which is definitely the first big lie since the beginning of spring this year!" Because the Japanese have already said that open nuclear food has nothing to do with participating in the CPTPP. Lian Shengwen pointed out that in fact, what the DPP really needs is to rely on the Japanese to support its struggle against the Chinese mainland.

Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-che said on the 8th that this "government" is to give the people unrealistic expectations, "We ate the Lai pig, the United States may not sign an FTA with Taiwan? Don't dream; you think that by eating food from the Five Prefectures of Fukushima, we can participate in the CPTPP? Stop dreaming! ”

Both the mainland and Taiwan have formally applied to join the CPTPP last year, and the mainland, with its international politics and huge market strength, has no suspense before Taiwan; if Taiwan tries to bypass the two sides of the strait, it can be concluded that there will never be a chance.
