According to the global new energy passenger car sales data released by CleanTechnica, in December 2021, the global sales of new energy passenger cars reached 907,600 units, another historical record. In the whole year of 2021, the cumulative sales of new energy passenger cars in the world reached 6.4954 million units, up 108% year-on-year, the highest increase in the calendar year.

By enterprise, in December 2021, Tesla returned to the top of the list with monthly sales of up to 170,200 vehicles, a record high; BYD ranked second with global sales of 93,300 units; SAIC-GM-Wuling ranked third with sales of 61,300 vehicles; and Volkswagen ranked fourth with sales of 47,500 vehicles.

From the cumulative sales of the whole year of 2021, Tesla topped the list with 936,200 vehicles, just one step away from one million; BYD significantly surpassed SAIC-GM-Wuling in second place, with cumulative sales of 593,900 vehicles and 456,100 vehicles respectively; secondly, Volkswagen sold more than 300,000 vehicles, while BMW, Mercedes-Benz and SAIC cumulative sales exceeded 200,000 vehicles; Volvo, Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Great Wall, Renault, GAC, Peugeot, Toyota and Ford have accumulated sales of more than 100,000 vehicles.

By brand/model, in December 2021, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y won the global championship and runner-up, with global sales of 86,000 and 79,600 units respectively, a record high; Hongguang MINIEV retreated to third place, with global sales of 55,700 vehicles; BYD still has 6 models entering the global TOP20, of which 4 are over 10,000. In addition, volkswagen ID.4, ideal one, Renault Zoe, Euler Good Cat, and Ben E-Star are also sold more than 10,000 units a month.

From the cumulative sales of the whole year of 2021, Tesla Model 3 still ranks first, with cumulative sales of 500,700 units; Hongguang MINIEV has accumulated sales of 424,100 units, still ranking second; Tesla Model Y has accumulated sales of 410,500 units, second only to Hongguang MINIEV; Volkswagen ID.4 and BYD Qin Plus PHEV cumulative sales of more than 100,000 units; other models have not exceeded 100,000 units.
