Life Essay, My Study Abroad Experience in Japan: Trip to Mt. Fuji

We are Chinese students, so under the organization of the school, we went to Mt. Fuji to travel, all said that Mt. Fuji is the symbol of Japan, just like the Great Wall of China, not to the Great Wall is not a good man, not to go to Mt. Fuji is also regrettable. This is one sentence I summarize.

Mt. Fuji is the highest peak in Japan, on the border between Shizuoka Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture, about 80 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. The dormant volcano spanning Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures was re-measured by the Japan Institute of Land geography in August 2002 (Heisei 14) to 3,775.63 meters, near the Pacific coast, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southwest of Tokyo. It is the highest peak in Japan and one of the largest active volcanoes in the world, and is currently dormant, but geologists still include it in the category of active volcanoes. Mt. Fuji, one of Japan's three major attractions of nature, history, and modernity (Mt. Fuji, Kyoto, and Ginza).

The foothills have a circumference of about 125 km, and together with the broad lava flow in the foothills, the diameter of the bottom is about 40 to 50 km. The crater at the summit is about 500 meters (1,600 feet) in diameter and about 250 meters deep.

The jagged crater rims that surround the "Fuji Eight Peaks" are Kensei, Hakusan-dake, Kusu-shigatake, Mt. Ōhi, Mt. Izu, Mt. Mori, Mt. Zogata, Mt. Komagata, and Mt. Mitake. Mt. Fuji belongs to the Fuji Volcanic Belt, a volcanic chain that starts from the Mariana Islands and reaches northern Honshu via the Izu Islands and the Izu Peninsula.

Mt. Fuji is one of the symbols of Japan and enjoys a global reputation. It is also often referred to as "Furong Peak" or "Fugatake" and "No.2 Kao ling". Since ancient times, the name of this mountain has often appeared in the traditional Japanese poem "Waka".

The name Fuji is derived from the Ezo language and now means "eternal life". The original pronunciation comes from the language of the Ainu ethnic minority in Japan, which means "Mountain of Fire" or "Vulcan". The mountain is famous for its graceful conical shape and is a sacred symbol of Japan.

Today, Mt. Fuji is known as the "Sacred Mountain" by the Japanese people and is a symbol of the Japanese nation's pride. Mt. Fuji is towering into the clouds, and the peak of the mountain is snow-capped, looking at it like a fan hanging upside down in the air, so it is also called "jade fan".

About 11,000 years ago, a large amount of lava began to erupt from the west side of the mountaintop of Ancient Fuji. These lavas formed the new Fuji, the main body of what is now Mt. Fuji. Since then, the summit of Kofuji and Shinfuji has been juxtaposed from east to west. About 2500 to 2800 years ago, the summit of ancient Fuji was partially weathered, causing a large-scale landslide, and eventually only the summit of New Fuji remained.

It is estimated that between 11,000 years ago and 8,000 years ago, lava was still erupting from the top of New Fuji Mountain. Since then, there have been no new eruptions at the top of the mountain, but there have been intermittent eruptions of lateral volcanoes such as Nagao Mountain and Baoyong Mountain.

Historical records of eruptions include the "Ennisodor Eruption" from 800 to 802 AD (19 to 21 years of the Japanese Calendar), and the Eruption of Zhenguan in 864 (the 6th year of the Japanese Zhenguan). The last eruption of Mt. Fuji was in 1707 (4 years in Honaga, Japan), and this time the smoke from Mt. Honaga reached the stratosphere in the atmosphere, where volcanic ash fell from Edo (now known as Tokyo) was 100 px thick. Volcanic earthquakes and fumes have been observed since then, and it is generally believed that there is still a possibility of future eruptions.

According to a drilling survey conducted by the Institute of Seismology of the University of Tokyo in April 2004, there are still more ancient mountains under the three mountains mentioned above. This fourth mountain was named The First Little Mount.

The first recorded eruption in history was in 800 AD, and the most recent was in 1707, when the violent eruption coated Edo (present-day Tokyo), more than 100 kilometers away, with a thick layer of volcanic ash, and the vast plains surrounding Mount Fuji have been experiencing intense volcanic activity.

Mt. Fuji has such a situation, we want to understand Japan, for Mt. Fuji also have a full understanding, we took the bus hired by the school, the vast march towards the sacred peak of Japan, the car passed a few hours, came to Shizuoka Prefecture, first arrived in Hakone, this is a place where you can see the volcano smoke, for those of us who have never seen a volcano. This is a very good experience, watched the movement of the volcano ate hakone's hot spring eggs, and then headed towards our destination Mt. Fuji, the car came to the halfway point of Mt. Fuji, and it can only be here, because there is no road on the way up, only on foot, a few of us international students have the spirit of not accepting defeat, and struggled to climb the road to the top of the mountain, the Great Wall We have all gone up, this Mt. Fuji we can not admit it, we must conquer it, we walk along the upward mountain road, slowly came to the place above the snow line, A little cold, we finally plucked up the courage to climb to the top of Mt. Fuji, when the array was a little cold, the road above the snow line was not easy to walk, the staff sent us cotton clothes, so that we can withstand the cold, climb to the top, there is a sense of pleasure to conquer Japan, and when we think about it later, our hearts are still beautiful. When I got down the mountain, I went to the gift shop and bought some souvenirs, and I had a habit of buying some souvenirs before I went to a spot, and the same was true in Kyoto. When we got down the mountain we came to the hot spring hotel, that is, the homestay, which is very popular in Japan, washing hot springs, talking with friends about interesting things for a day, really have a special fun, eating at night is the famous grilled saury in Japan, let us experience the Japanese food culture, everyone eats very happy, the fatigue of part-time work also disappears. The school's event was a great success. And then comes a normal life.
