Hydrogen produced by Yanshan Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Sinopec, supplies hydrogen to the "main torch" of the Winter Olympic Games. Not to be outdone, PetroChina independently developed green hydrogen to supply hydrogen for the Zhangjiakou Division torch.

As a leader in the petrochemical industry, at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics held in Beijing, China used hydrogen energy provided by Sinopec as a torch fuel for the first time to light the "main torch", which fully reflected the green and low-carbon concept of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
On the eve of the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yanshan Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Sinopec, successfully passed the world's first "green hydrogen" standard "low-carbon hydrogen, clean hydrogen and renewable hydrogen standard and evaluation" certification, becoming the first enterprise in China to obtain clean hydrogen certification and help the "Green Winter Olympics".
On December 29, 2020, in order to promote the high-quality development of the mainland hydrogen energy industry and actively practice the "double carbon" goal, the "Standards and Evaluations for Low-Carbon, Clean Hydrogen and Renewable Hydrogen" proposed by the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance was officially released and implemented. The standard uses the whole life cycle assessment method to establish quantitative standards and evaluation systems for low-carbon hydrogen, clean hydrogen and renewable hydrogen, and quantifies the carbon emissions of hydrogen in the form of standards for the first time in the world.
Under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology and other ministries and commissions and the China Association for Science and Technology, the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance was jointly established by a number of large backbone enterprises in the fields of energy production and equipment manufacturing in the mainland, well-known universities and research institutes, and its membership units have increased to 105.
Yanshan Petrochemical Hydrogen New Energy Supply Project is the official strategic cooperation project between Sinopec and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The project was launched in October 2019 with a design scale of 2,000 standard cubic meters per hour and a successful start-up in March 2020 with a hydrogen purity of 99.999%. Up to now, nearly 300 tons of hydrogen have been supplied to Beijing and North China. At present, Yanshan Petrochemical is fully guaranteeing the demand for hydrogen refueling stations for the Winter Olympics, with a daily hydrogen supply of 2 tons.
PetroChina ignites the "torch" of the Green Hydrogen Winter Olympics
This time, with the help of PetroChina, China lit the first green hydrogen torch in the history of the Winter Olympics. This not only highlights the technical strength of the mainland in the field of new energy to the world, but also creates the history of energy use of the Winter Olympic Torch, and for the first time achieves zero carbon emissions in the whole process from fuel production to application.
In recent years, PetroChina has accelerated the transformation from "winning by resources" to "winning by technology", and the "birth" of green hydrogen is one of the important achievements of scientific and technological research in the field of new energy of PetroChina. Since the establishment of the green hydrogen core technology research team, PetroChina has not only made major breakthroughs in the core technology of solar electrolysis water catalysts, but also some hydrogen production materials have reached the international leading level, which is of milestone significance for the future establishment of green hydrogen industry and the realization of green and low-carbon development.
It can be seen that in terms of clean energy hydrogen production, Sinopec is still superior, taking the lead in obtaining the world's first "green hydrogen" standard "low-carbon hydrogen, clean hydrogen and renewable hydrogen standard and evaluation" certification.
