In 1934, Jiao Yulian, who studied at Beicang Girls' High School in Kaifeng, Henan, represented Henan in the 18th North China Games, setting a national record of 13.2 seconds for women's 100 meters, which remained until 1953. She was a sensation with her speed and beautiful running posture, and was known as the "beauty deer".
On October 10, 1934, the 18th North China Games organized by the North China Sports Federation was held in Tianjin. Jiao Yulian, a second-year student at Kitakura Girls' High School, was selected to participate in the competition.
Jiao Yulian, a native of YeXian County, Henan Province, was born in 1919, on the day of the opening of Kaifeng Beicang Girls' High School, the school conducted a 50-meter sprint test on 100 new students, and the slender Jiao Yulian was the first to rush to the finish line, leaving the second place 10 meters away.
On the field, when Jiao Yulian participated in the 50-meter sprint preliminary round to sprint to the finish line, she suddenly fell, and the wound on her left knee was pierced into the slag, and her right knee was suddenly red and swollen. After a simple bandage, she endured the pain and won the first place in the 100 meters, 200 meters sprint and long jump in one fell swoop, and the audience immediately boiled.
Henan newspapers rushed to report on the titles of "Jiao Yulian Went Out with Injuries to Sanxi Linmen" and "Jiao Yulian ——— The Sports Queen of Henan".
Then, on the opening day of the 18th North China Games held in Hebei Province, 15-year-old Jiao Yulian alone won four gold medals in the 50 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump, of which 50 meters broke the North China record and set a national record of 100 meters with a time of 13 seconds and 2 seconds. Yu Xuezhong, a patriotic general at the time and chairman of the Hebei Provincial Government, gave the dazzling sports star a silver lion shield award of "Roar, China".
Jiao Yulian's impressive achievements shocked the entire Chinese sports community. For a time, Jiao Yulian's heroic posture of running jumped on the front page of major newspapers. When a newspaper reported on it, it called her a "mermaid deer" and praised her speed and beautiful running posture.
After that, jiao Yulian's 100-meter record was maintained for 20 years, until 1954, when it was broken by Liu Yuying, a Dalian athlete.
In 1957, Jiao Yulian was transferred to Dalian to engage in sports work, which made great achievements for the take-off of Dalian's sports industry. He has successively served as deputy secretary-general of Shenyang Municipal Sports Committee, deputy director of Dalian Municipal Sports Committee, and vice chairman of China Athletics Association.
On November 26, 2011, 92-year-old Jiao Yulian won the highest honor of Henan sports - "Century Top Ten", and she was the oldest of the "Century Top Ten" winners.
