THE MEMORY OF WATER
Memories of water - or - Jenmolu with steamed fish
25min
Melanie, who has been away from Hong Kong for more than thirty years, returned to Hong Kong to teach, and her hometown seemed kind and strange. Melanie meets Nikki, a schoolgi, who was born in different eras, but together in the mother city to find their own cultural roots and identity: one to regain the romantic illusion of the past, and the other to record the culture of the old village. Despite the dilution of life, the molecules retained in them are always the same, like the memory of water, which is always new.
This short film is written for a comprehensive film (i.e. a film containing several short films) featuring the works of five filmmakers to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of Lingnan University in Hong Kong. I was an Artist-in-Residence in 2016. The screenplay is based on a feature film script of the same name that did not receive the necessary funding 20 years ago.

LABYRINTHE MAZE
3min
The film was made in the 1970s while studying art communication at Concordia University in Montreal. My Hong Kong family and I have just immigrated to Canada, and I feel very strongly about the experience of culture shock, and based on this, I worked with two classmates to create this film to describe the sense of disorientation when we have to adapt to a new culture.

A VERY EASY DEATH Peaceful Death
8min
This is the film I made after my mother died in 1975. Initially just for my brothers and sisters, they all tried to mourn. The film describes the various stages of this "mourning" process: from shock, to pain, to dreams and nostalgia, and finally to the stage of reconciliation and acceptance. At the beginning and end of the film, I put in a student film that shot my mother on super 8 cameras and pulled out some scenes – a little story that expressed the frustration of her children growing up to leave her. The "Death of Serenity" was shot with 16mm, originally with the help of Simon. De Beauvoir's text was filmed; After the clip, I deleted the text and preferred to let the images and voices speak.

The film is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Toronto Asian American International Film Festival, an important film festival for Asian Filmmakers in Canada. The proposition is "liturgy," so I quote a quote from the American writer Maggie Pierce.

TWENTY: Two-minute celebration at the Toronto Asian International Film Festival
2min
The film was written for the 20th anniversary of the Toronto Asian American International Film Festival. The proposition is "twenty," so I quote a quote from the American writer Jackson Brown Jr.

LABYRINTHE REVISITED Revisit the maze
(work in perpetual progress perpetual works)
6min
I made this film during a visit to Montreal during a snowstorm in December 2005. I was invited by a former Canadian professor, the daughter of a great painter and experimental filmmaker, to edit an introduction to an unfinished film left by her father, and as she sorted through the relics, she found many sample boxes of her father's films, as well as the film of my short film "The Death of Serenity." She took this as a hint and contacted me to cooperate. During this winter of isolation, I returned to the "labyrinth" filming location with her. I then added some images of my short line, including a small video I made at the end of elvis IS DEAD "Elvis is Dead" to express my feelings of isolation and nostalgia.
