In the early 1970s, Professor Dai of the Department of Archaeology of Northwest University led a team to shenmu to investigate, and they listened to local residents in Gaojiapu Town that there were many ancient ruins in Shiya Village, but no one cared about and managed them, and now they have become a place for villagers to herd cattle and sheep. Professor Dai was also surprised to hear this, so he immediately led people to Shi'an Village, and under the guidance of local villagers, found the overgrown remains. Professor Dai and his party continued to walk along the path stepped out by the villagers, and sure enough, they also found cattle and sheep leisurely grazing inside.
In the middle of the wild grass, Professor Dai saw a lot of low walls stacked with stones, but most of them were intermittent. According to local villagers, these low stone walls have existed for a long time, and they have existed as early as their grandfather's grandfather. Professor Dai didn't come to a conclusion for a while, but his intuition told him that it would be a completely new discovery. By 1976, the Cultural Relics Department of Xi'an Organized Experts to Investigate the Ruins of Shi'a Village, including Professor Dai, who after more than three months of cleaning, clearly revealed the outline of a city site.
The entire site is huge, mainly composed of inner walls and external walls, of which the length of the inner wall reaches 2 kilometers, and the length of the outer wall is close to 3 kilometers, so the total area of the entire site is more than 4 million square meters, which is much larger than the area of the Tao Temple site and the ancient city of Liangzhu discovered in the early days. Archaeologists said that this site is an ancient city in the Longshan culture period, dating back more than 4,000 years, and it is customarily named "Shi'an Ruins". It is worth mentioning that the Shiya site is not only large, but also the overall design is very advanced.
As we all know, the ancient city walls had many defensive measures, such as the most conventional ones with urns and horse faces. To the surprise of experts, Shiya City already had the design of the urn city and the horse face at that time, so it was a rewrite of a period of architectural history. During the excavation process, the experts found a large open space behind the outer wall gate, followed by a city gate built on the side, at first the experts wondered what it was, and later after research, it was indeed the earliest prototype of the urn city, which could trap the enemy between the two gates.
During the excavation of the outer city wall, experts also found that there were protrusions every twenty meters, and later studies showed that this was the earliest horse face, and people could shoot the enemy on the protruding side. In addition, experts have also found several high-rise building ruins, speculating that their height is about 20 meters, so some experts say that this is the observation deck of Shi'an Castle, which can observe enemies in the distance. About 3 kilometers north of the outer wall, experts have also found some battlement sites, speculating that this is also a defensive measure of the Shi'an people, which is the earliest Great Wall.
After more than 4,000 years of wind and rain, Shi'an City still has many ruins left, which not only allows me to imagine its grandeur, but also shows that Shi'an must have been indestructible at that time. In further excavations, experts also found a lot of skeletons from under the city foundation, after ruling out the possibility of ancient tombs, experts said that this is the martyrs of Shi'an City, indicating that the Shi'an people attach great importance to the city, otherwise they would not have used a large number of living people to be martyred. In this regard, archaeologists have to think deeply, and they have to interpret Shi'an City from another angle, since it is advanced in defense and the whole is impregnable, it also shows that there are powerful enemies outside Shi'an City.
If the Shi'an people had no enemies, they would not have to set up any defenses at all, or even city walls, but this was not the case in the real Shi'an City, and the more perfect its walls and defenses were, the more fierce the enemies they faced. Since the enemy is fierce, first of all, it shows that there are many people, and then there are good weapons, and at the same time these people must also have a gathering place, so there is a large city. This inference is reasonable, but the experts have not found any ancient city ruins outside of Shiya City.
Could it be that the experts were wrong? In fact, it is not, the scope of the experts' investigation is too small, at least three or five hundred miles away from the Stone Ridge City, before there may be another large city ruins. Therefore, the experts came to the final conclusion that Shi'e City must not be an isolated city, and there must be large-scale city ruins that have not yet been discovered within a hundred miles of it, even larger, more advanced, and more amazing than Shi'e City. Therefore, archaeologists are also full of confidence and hope that there will be more discoveries in the near future.
