Shanghai Stadium, Shanghai Stadium, Shanghai Swimming Hall, this is the Shanghai "three-piece set" in the eyes of Shanghai sports fans. In the past half century, the affectionate "Stadium" and "Stadium of 80,000 People" have left countless exciting memories for Shanghai sports.
In 1975, the Shanghai Gymnasium was erected. The stadium, which can accommodate more than 18,000 spectators, became one of the landmarks of Shanghai at that time, and also became a veritable "universal stadium" in the hearts of generations of Shanghainese. The Shanghai Swimming Pool and Shanghai Stadium, built adjacent to the "Wan ti Gymnasium", also reflect the development and changes of Chinese sports.
In 1983, the Shanghai Natatorium, the largest warm-water swimming pool in China at that time, was officially unveiled, and undertook the swimming competitions of swimming and diving at the first East Asian Games of the Two National Games. Olympic champions Wu Minxia, Huo Liang and Chen Taoxi also began at the Shanghai Swimming Pool. With the holding of the Eighth Games, the Shanghai Stadium was put into use in 1997. This year, Hong Kong, as a special administrative region of China, organized a delegation to participate in the National Games for the first time.
Over the years, this venue has witnessed Shanghai's urban development and changing times, and more and more mass sports events have been held here. Nowadays, with the advancement of the renovation project of Xujiahui Sports Park, facilities such as "Wantihui" have been basically completed and gradually opened; and the sports venues and facilities such as Shanghai Stadium, Shanghai Gymnasium and Shanghai Swimming Pool that meet the international top standards are still under intense construction.
