Xining, January 29 (Qi Zengbei) reporters learned from the Qinghai Provincial Science and Technology Department on the 29th that the new color potato strains selected and bred by the department's "key technology research and development and demonstration of the high-quality development of the special potato industry" project have developed new products such as color potato chips, french fries, and diced potatoes, which provide material guarantee and technical support for the diversified development and application of potato products, open a precedent for color potato breeding in Qinghai Province, and fill the gap in the domestic breeding varieties that do not have special varieties of French fries.

It is reported that the project of "Research and Development and Demonstration of Key Technologies for high-quality Development of Special Potato Industry" is undertaken by Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences. The project introduced 303 domestic and foreign resources, established a resource garden of 26 acres, cultivated 13 new strains of special potatoes suitable for planting in Qinghai, and selected and bred more than 30 parts of colored potato materials with different characteristics such as red skin red meat, purple skin purple meat, yellow skin yellow meat, red skin and yellow tooth eye.

At the same time, in 7 counties (districts) such as Huangyuan and Mutual Aid, a total of 2246.5 mu of original seed production bases of special varieties have been established, with an average yield of 2014.3 kg per mu; the first-class seed production base is 17,000 mu, with an average yield of 2556.4 kg per mu; the commercial potato production base is 129,000 mu, with an average yield of 2323.6 kg per mu, and the yield per mu is increased by 322.1 to 562.9 kg.

Potato is one of the landmark industries in the construction of green organic agricultural and livestock products export areas in Qinghai Province, which is of great significance for consolidating the effective connection between poverty alleviation and rural revitalization and leading the development of modern agriculture. During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the Science and Technology Department of Qinghai Province continued to increase its support for the potato industry, implementing 30 scientific research projects and funding of 47.19 million yuan in terms of platforms, talents and key technologies.

According to reports, with the Provincial Key Laboratory of Potatoes of Qinghai University as the main body, the scientific research projects organized and implemented have successively selected and bred more than 20 potato varieties of plateau series and green potato series, especially the No. 9 variety of green potatoes, which have created a record of more than 5,000 kilograms per mu for many times inside and outside the province, and were identified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as the main potato varieties in 2013, with a cumulative promotion area of more than 90 million mu in the country.

With the "Potato Alpine Experimental Station" in Sizhai Township, Huangyuan County, Xining City as the main body, the special project of scientific research basic capacity building and key research and development organized and implemented has been promoted in Qinghai Province to build a detoxified seed potato expansion base of 200,000 mu, with an annual production capacity of 20 million micro seed potatoes and a detoxification rate of more than 89%. At present, it has formed the only provincial, county and rural four-level breeding system in the country and the whole industrial chain development pattern of potato seed potato breeding, standardized planting, intensive processing and market-oriented marketing.

In addition, the special project for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements such as "Integration and Demonstration of Key Potato Technologies in Qingnan Region" implemented in Xiangda Town, Nangqian County, Yushu Prefecture, yielded 3405.7 kg per mu, which laid a scientific research foundation for promoting the expansion of potato producing areas to high-altitude areas.
