According to Reuters Washington, January 28, on Friday, local time, just hours before US President Joe Biden arrived in Pittsburgh as planned, a bridge in the former steel city collapsed. Biden's trip was to highlight his efforts to strengthen infrastructure, supply chains, and revitalize U.S. manufacturing.

Biden's approval rating has been declining in recent months amid heightened COVID-19 and high inflation, but was boosted Thursday when the Commerce Department reported that 2021 was the fastest-growing year in nearly 40 years.

Hours before Biden's visit to Pittsburgh, authorities reported that a snow-covered bridge near Pittsburgh's Frik Park collapsed.

The report noted that a photo posted by KDKA television on social media showed several cars piled up in the rubble of the collapsed lane at the end of a wooded valley. At least one of the cars appeared to be buses, suspended from the edge of the bridge.

The Pittsburgh Public Safety Service said on social media that the area was permeated with a strong smell of natural gas.

The accident was reportedly a "striking coincidence" with the timing of Biden's visit to Pittsburgh. (Compilation /Long Jun)
