According to agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Los Angeles on January 26, the Los Angeles police chief said that several freight trains in the city were hijacked and dozens of guns were stolen.
Earlier this month, photos of thieves opening train cars in downtown Los Angeles and leaving a field of garbage spread around the world.
Now, Los Angeles Police Chief Michael Moore says the bandits stole more than just Amazon packages.
Moore told the police commission this week: "Someone ... Pried open these containers, stole guns, dozens of guns ... This makes us very worried that the theft of guns will trigger more violence in the city. ”
Photographs taken by Agence France-Presse near the city center show thousands of dismantled courier cartons scattered on the tracks, many of them from large retailers such as Target.
The report also said that the thieves waited until the freight train stopped, broke the door lock with iron tongs, and then opened the package to steal the stolen goods and threw away things that were not easy to change hands. Stolen goods may include a variety of goods bought or sold by retailers across the country.
For now, the police say there are also guns stolen.
In the United States, guns purchased online cannot be legally shipped to customers, but can be mailed to a licensed dealer for pickup.
Pacific Union Railroad trains were targeted for theft, with the company experiencing a 160 percent increase in thefts in Los Angeles County since December 2020. The company said the cost of losses from such events for the full year of 2021 was about $5 million.
