There are always strange legends about the streets of the old hometown; supernatural events or bizarre cases that occur in the dark of night, I believe you will always hear a few when you were a child. Darkness is the visual manifestation of silence. Most people are afraid of the dark, but photographer Aakaash Bali finds a different kind of comfort in the dark.
Like most artists, Aakaash's interest in photography began as a teenager, when his father's camera opened up new worlds for him. When digital cameras first came out, an ad grabbed Aakaash's attention and changed the way he took pictures. It was a night photograph of Manhattan. "I looked at that picture and thought, I never knew I could take pictures at night like this." He said.
His recent project, Shadow District, takes viewers back in time as if they were in darkness. Looking at these photos, some people can feel the comfort of nostalgia, and some people feel worried. When asked why he chose to take dark over well-lit photos, he replied: "The darkness gives the scene a sense of tranquility and silence, and being in it allows the subject to make any sound." ”
