The theme of "Children of Sorrow" is Christian symbolism, showing the image of Christ full of human and modern colors.
Botticelli's Christ eyes look sharply at the viewer, and in the halo above his head there are angels holding Christ's weapons, interpreted by gray tones. The whole painting creates a sense of solemnity like a sculpture, but also a very modern feeling. Botticelli's paintings are delicate, with nail marks on the hands of the figure of Christ crossed over the chest. Botticelli engraved the more gloomy and difficult themes in a very touching way, worthy of being a giant of Renaissance art.
