[U.S. Supreme Court Justice Retires, or Black Woman Succeeds]
In the latest news, the US media on Wednesday quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that liberal Justice Breyer of the Supreme Court will retire, giving President Biden the opportunity to appoint a successor judge.
According to people familiar with the matter, Biden has claimed to nominate the first black female judge of the Supreme Court.
Breyer, 83, was appointed by then-President Bill Clinton in 1994 as the oldest justice on the Supreme Court. According to the news, Breyer is expected to retire after the summer, and Biden's nomination is estimated to be easily approved in the Senate, in other words, the proportion of 6 conservatives in the Supreme Court to 3 liberal judges will not change. California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger and District of Columbia Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson are likely to be candidates for succession.
Senate Majority Leader Schumer said Biden's nominee would be heard expeditiously before the Senate Judiciary Committee and confirmed by the Senate at a prudent pace. Biden is expected to nominate his successor as soon as possible to become a judge when the new Supreme Court term begins on Oct. 3.
