On the 27th, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the HONG KONG SAR Government announced that according to the Notification of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Dutch province of North Brabant immediately instructed the industry to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including poultry eggs) from the region to protect the public health of Hong Kong.

A spokesman for the CFS said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 730 tons of refrigerated poultry meat from the Netherlands in the first nine months of last year.

The spokesman said that the CFS has contacted the Dutch authorities on the incident and will continue to closely monitor the news of the outbreak of avian influenza issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health and relevant authorities, and take appropriate action in accordance with the development of the local epidemic situation.
