A Lonely Ship – (Russia) Lermontov
A ship sails alone on the sea,
It neither seeks happiness,
Nor does it escape happiness,
It's just sailing forward,
Below is the calm blue sea,
Overhead is the golden sun.
Will face it head-on,
With the past,
Deeper than buried in its heart
All are microfoam.
In the pale blue sea, there is a lone sail looking for something, it is alone away from the harbor of home, sailing alone, struggling to move forward on the surface of the terrifying sea. In the face of storms and huge waves, it is as calm as water, with the turquoise sea at its feet and the golden sun overhead, and it does not seek any happiness and home. The life and journey of the sail lies in the way forward that is about to be faced, in the free but stormy road to the future.
The sailboat in the poem is a symbol of the poet's self and of everyone in the era at that time. The young people of the times, far from home, stubbornly move forward in the fierce wind and rain, toward the ideal and light, and pursue freedom and the future. The poet has a lonely, rebellious soul and symbolizes the poet's strong yearning for freedom.
