St. Helena, one of the most remote islands in the world, is inhabited by a turtle named Jonathan. This year, it will celebrate its 190th birthday, which means it will be the world's longest-lived turtle.
CNN reported on the 26th that Matt Joshua, director of tourism in St. Helena, said that in fact, no one knows Jonathan's exact age because it has no accurate date of birth. Jonathan may even be 200 years old, he said. Jonathan is currently believed to have been born probably in 1832 and arrived in St. Helena from the Seychelles in 1882.
Since Jonathan was born, the world has changed dramatically. In its legendary lifetime, it experienced 8 British dynasties, from George V to Elizabeth II, a total of 50 British prime ministers. But for Jonathan, life seems regular for nearly two centuries — his main interests are sleeping, eating, and mating. However, because of his age, Jonathan is now blind and has no sense of smell, but his hearing is very good.
