On the afternoon of January 25, at the main stadium of the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center ("Big Lotus"), Zheng Xiongying, the Paralympic seated women's volleyball champion, was carefully inspecting the barrier-free facilities in the venue. Half a month ago, Zheng Xiongying, as a member of the Asian Organizing Committee, officially joined the operation team of the "Big Lotus" venue, and she will participate in the preparation of the Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games as a staff member of the Asian Paralympic Integration, bringing better services and guarantees to disabled athletes.

She was the women's row champion at the 3rd Paralympic Games

Join the Operation Team of Lotus Venues for advice

Zheng Xiongying was born in 1975, is a native of Tonglu, Hangzhou, and believes that many friends who like volleyball will not be strangers to her.

At the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Zheng Xiongying and his teammates defeated the Dutch team from the birthplace of the row 3-1 to win the most valuable gold medal for the Chinese delegation, which was also the first gold medal in women's seated volleyball in the history of the Paralympic Games. He then won gold medals in women's seated volleyball at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

This time, Zheng Xiongying joined the "Big Lotus" venue operation team, based on his many years of experience in playing international events, as well as nearly ten years of experience in the Tonglu Disabled Persons' Federation, to give advice on the conversion work.

"'Big Lotus' is the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games, and the same venue needs to do some conversion work to hold two grand events in the short term, such as the layout of the venue facilities suitable for able-bodied people is not necessarily suitable for disabled people, and then the maintenance of wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs for the disabled must keep up, so we must pay attention to convenience and easy to find in the design point." Zheng Xiongying said that it is precisely because of the particularity of her body that she can feel more about how barrier-free facilities are built, so that the travel of disabled people can be more convenient and more comfortable.

Han Shuixiang, director of the Venue Operation Center of the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, told reporters: "In the opening and closing ceremonies of the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games, there will also be disabled people entering the venues, so in various streams, Zheng Xiongying can put forward more clear requirements from the perspective of professional athletes to help the Hangzhou Asian Games and asian paralympic games be held smoothly." ”

Transform from a frontline athlete to an event operator

She wants all the contestants to feel the "warmth of Hangzhou"

From the front of the stage to the backstage, from the front-line athletes to the event operators, although the identity has changed, but to become a part of the Asian Games, the Asian Para games, Zheng Xiongying is very happy.

"I wanted to volunteer before, but I didn't expect to really be able to participate in the preparations." Zheng Xiongying said that the biggest difference between front-stage and behind-the-scenes work is that she was "served" when she was an athlete, and now she comes here to work to serve others.

In the hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium operation office, Zheng Xiongying after half a month of work training, in addition to excitement, she also has more feelings. Because before that, she could never have imagined that behind hosting such a high-level event, it would take the joint efforts of more than 100,000 people. When I was an athlete before, I only knew how to compete for scores and fight the field, but I really didn't expect that there were so many aspects of manpower and material coordination behind the scenes.

Zheng Xiongying said that she is deeply proud that Hangzhou has such a venue, and hopes that through the efforts of their team, disabled athletes from all over Asia can feel the warmth of Hangzhou. "I hope that when the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Paralympic Games are held, friends from all over the world can't help but boast when they come here, 'How this venue is so thoughtful and meticulous, all aspects can be thought of', so that athletes and guests feel very warm wherever they go, and there are smiling faces everywhere they go."
