Guo Weiruo (1908~1971), a native of Weifang, Shandong, was a representative scholar of flower and bird painting in the twentieth century, and the founder of the Flower and Bird Painting Department of the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Guo Weiruo came from a family of scholars, and since childhood, he studied painting with his hometown painters Ding Dongzhai and Liu Zhidong. In 1929, he was admitted to the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts to learn Western painting, and after graduation, he served as a teacher at the Shandong Provincial First Rural Normal School. In 1937, he entered the Antiquities Exhibition Hall of the Palace Museum in Beijing to study Chinese painting, and was guided by Huang Binhong. Good at flowers, birds and landscapes, the works integrate the families, write with the work belt, the painting style is beautiful and lively, vivid and natural, quite a breath of life.
