Although I have not been able to return to Beijing for the New Year in the past two years, I will never forget wherever I am, planting daffodils early before the festival. Daffodils often take more than a month from the time they are planted to the time they flower, so plant them well in advance. Otherwise, Chinese New Year's Eve wouldn't have seen daffodils blossoming that day.
