Remembering Qian Zhongshu and "The Siege"

Yang Chen

Preface

Since the reprinting of The Siege in China in 1980, I have often seen the Hammer Book apologise to the readers who wrote to and visited the house: or sincerely advised not to study what the Siege of the City; Or politely tweet "no comment"; Or it could be an impolite and unreasonable refusal. Once I heard him say to a British lady on the phone who was asking to see her: "If you think it's good to eat an egg, why do you know the hen that laid the egg?" I was worried that he would bump into people. Comrade Hu Qiaomu once suggested that I write a "Qian Zhongshu and (Siege of the City)". I do have itchy hands, but in my capacity, it is easy to write articles such as Zhongshu's so-called "Dead Husband's Deeds". However, I neither praise nor criticize, but only according to the facts; Chung also admitted that there was no distortion after reading it. Comrade Qiaomu recently asked about this article. It just so happens that Comrade Zhu Zheng's "Camel Series" is willing to accept people, so I will give it to him for publication, and may be able to use it for the reference of the favored people of "Siege of the City"

Qian Zhongshu said in the preface to "The Siege" that the book was written by him "accumulation of gong baht". I read it with "Accumulation of Hammers and Baht". Every night, he showed me the manuscript he had written, eagerly to see how I would react. I laughed, and he laughed; I laughed, and he laughed too. Sometimes I put down the manuscript and laughed with him, because I laughed not only about the things in the book, but also about the things outside the book. I don't have to say what to laugh at, but I don't know each other anyway. Then he told me what I was going to write about the next paragraph, and I eagerly waited to see how he wrote it. He wrote an average of about five hundred words a day. He showed me the final draft and didn't change it. Later, he was not satisfied with this novel and other "less works", and he was eager to make a big change, but this was a later story.

Chung Shu selects Song poems, and I have volunteered to be the "old woman" of Bai Juyi - that is, the minimum standard; If I couldn't read it, he had to add a note. But among the readers of Siege, I became the highest standard. Just as the bachelor is familiar with the origin of the words and sentences in ancient poetry, I am familiar with the origin of the characters and plots in the story. In addition to the author Ben Kanzanren, the one who is most qualified to annotate "The Siege" is me.

Why do you need annotations to read novels? However, many readers take an interest in the author every time they become interested in a novel, and regard the characters and plots in the novel as real facts. Some simply regard the protagonist of the novel as the author himself. Smart readers undertake

I really think that the author cannot be equated with the characters in the book, but they say that the characters created by the author are and

The story is inseparable from his personal experience and thoughts and feelings. That's certainly true. But

Comment I once pointed out in an article: an important ingredient in creation is imagination and good experience

Than the fire lit in the darkness, imagine the light emitted by this fire; Without fire there is no light. But the light is far greater than the size of the fire point. Stories of creation tend to start from more

The first aspect goes beyond the author's own experience. We must return to the author's scriptures from the stories we created
