Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Dennis Monastirs confirmed on January 27 local time that Lyabchuk, a 21-year-old member of the Ukrainian National Guard who shot and killed five people at the Dnipro Southern Machinery Factory on the same day, has been detained.
Monastirsky wrote on Facebook on January 27 that "at present, [the incident has caused] 5 deaths and 5 others injured," Russian Satellite News Agency reported on January 27. The serviceman, Liabchuk, has been detained by the police and will be held accountable according to law. He also noted that a committee would be set up to investigate the incident.
According to CCTV News, the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine issued a statement on the same day that at 3:40 a.m. local time on January 27, a Ukrainian National Guard soldier opened fire with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, 5 soldiers died on the spot, and 5 others were injured. The gunman has since fled the scene.
The gunman is currently identified as a member of the Ukrainian National Guard, born in 2001, from the Odessa region of Ukraine.
