Today is a very special day

Today is a very special day

In the long course of history, today, October 25, is just another ordinary day; but for Chinese, it is a rather special day.

The biggest special thing is that China's international status and influence are closely related to a major event 50 years ago today.

On October 25, 1971, the 26th session of the General Assembly adopted the historic resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority of 76 votes in favour, 35 against and 17 abstentions.

All the legitimate rights of the People's Republic of China at the United Nations were restored, and Chiang Kai-shek's representatives were immediately expelled from the United Nations and all the organs to which it belonged.

This was a moment that truly changed history, one of the most significant events in the history of the United Nations.

Today is a very special day

Looking back at the videos and pictures at the time, when the electronic counting board showed the voting results, there was a long-lasting applause at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. "We have won", "Long live China", some of the representatives of the participating countries shook hands and hugged, and some African representatives even danced happily.

This was China's influence and soft power at that time. Subsequently, New China became one of the five permanent members of the Security Council, and in major international events, China became a very key pole.

I often wonder what would happen to China without this historically changing event?

At least two points.

1, as a big country, China still has influence, but it will certainly not have the international status and influence it has today.

2, China is isolated from the United Nations, the Taiwan authorities have stolen the seats of the five permanent members, China's reform and opening up will be more difficult, and there will be no prosperity and development like China today.

Looking back at this day 50 years ago, it is also the result of the dedication and even bloodshed of generations of Chinese.

Because on this day 71 years ago, the Chinese Volunteer Army fought the first battle after entering the DPRK.

On October 25, 1950, the 118th Division of the 40th Army of our Volunteer Army engaged in an encounter with the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Regiment of the 6th Infantry Division of Syngman Rhee's Army in the areas of Liangshuidong and Pung ha Dong.

After about an hour of fighting, our volunteer army completely annihilated a battalion and an artillery squadron of the enemy army, killed and wounded more than 470 enemy prisoners, captured 1 American adviser, and captured 16 guns, 12 artillery pieces, 38 cars, 3 war horses, and 2 radios.

After the war, Mao Zedong called: "Celebrate your initial victory." ”

Today is a very special day

This day has also been designated as the anniversary of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.

Without the bloodshed and sacrifice of the predecessors, there would have been China's subsequent construction and development, and the world's respect for China.

It's a turbulent world, and looking back at history, on October 25, there were so many impressive events.

On October 25, 1860, the Qing government signed the Sino-French Beijing Treaty with France, and the Yuanmingyuan had been robbed, and it was a large amount of indemnity.

On October 25, 1938, Wuhan fell, and the Largest Battle of Wuhan in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression ended, and the War of Resistance entered a difficult stage of stalemate.

On October 25, 1945, the surrender ceremony of Taiwan Province in the Chinese Theater of Operations was held in Taipei, and Taiwan and the Penghu Archipelago were officially returned to China. This day is also designated as "Taiwan Restoration Day".

On October 25, 1961, in Berlin, U.S.-Soviet tanks confronted each other at Checkpoint Charlie, with their guns pointed at their muzzles, and East and West Germany entered a total confrontation.

On October 25, 1983, there was an attack on American targets in Lebanon, killing more than 200 American soldiers, which was the largest casualty of the US Marine Corps after the Vietnam War, and in the face of chaos and bloodshed, as powerful as the US army, it could only be forced to withdraw from Lebanon.

On October 25, 1984, the Chinese-American writer Liu Yiliang (pen name "Jiangnan") was assassinated in the United States, which the Us side determined was committed by the Taiwan side, and the us-Taiwan relations were tense, which also became a prelude to the great changes in Taiwan's political situation...

It must be said that a major event like this, if you look back at history carefully, there are many days; but this October 25, especially this day 50 years ago, is indeed of extraordinary significance to China.

If you must say revelation, three points, completely personal opinion.

First, development is still the last word.

New China entered the United Nations, but the world at that time should not have known that the Soviet Union would one day disintegrate and die, but China developed into what it is now. In a word: development is still the last word, and if you do not stand on the correct side of history, you are doomed to be abandoned by history.

The Soviet Union was like that, looking at other empires in history, and the United States, wasn't it?

Today is a very special day

Second, never seek hegemony.

People remember Qiao Guanhua later laughing at the United Nations, but when I look at history, people applauded enthusiastically at that time, and Qiao Guanhua's words: Superpower is to be superhuman, ride on the heads of others, and claim hegemony. China does not do it now and will never do it, invading, subverting, controlling, interfering and bullying others as a superpower.

The developing countries were happy for China at that time, because they hated hegemony, and China did not seek hegemony; when China was strong, it could never seek hegemony.

Third, unite all those who can be united.

The UN resolution of that year was 76 votes in favor, 35 votes against and 17 abstentions. Many of the votes in favor were our poor brothers, but they also included some Western countries, Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Israel, Finland, and so on.

The negative vote is actually more worth looking at: the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and many Asian, African and Latin American countries: the Philippines, Haiti, Venezuela, Uruguay and so on.

Of course, the international situation was different at that time, and Venezuela at that time was certainly not Venezuela now, and I just want to say that if you vote now, it is absolutely certain that there will be more countries on China's side.

There is much help for the way, and little help for the wrong way. However, no matter when, it is also in China's interest to make few enemies and many friends.

The world is still turbulent, the struggle is still continuing, and China still needs to work hard. Be calm, the more angry you are, the more calm you are; be confident, confident that we are on the right side of history.

Struggle cannot be without sacrifice. On October 25, 1942, the anti-Japanese hero Wang Erxiao was sacrificed under the enemy's bayonet.

But bitter people, the sky is not the limit. Checked it out, today, or Mr. Ren Zhengfei's 77th birthday. Happy birthday!
