The Rookie Challenge will feature 28 players, including 12 rookies, 12 sophomores and four players from the Development League Ignition Team, the first time a Development League player has participated in the Rookie Tournament.
The new mode is that the tournament will be divided into 4 teams of seven players for a total of 3 tournaments, 2 semi-finals and 1 final. Each match is set with a final victory score of 50 points for the semi-finals, 25 points for the final, and 75 points for the final victory scores in both rounds, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the league.
Each team's coaching staff will be made up of the NBA's official all-time 75 stars and assistant coaches from this year's All-Star coaching board. Each team will select 7 players in the draft and must include a development league ignition team player, and Chinese player Zeng Fanbo is expected to participate in the rookie challenge.
In addition, the Rookie Challenge will feature a "Key Ball Challenge" during the intermission of Games TWO and III, with 8 NBA players and development league players split into 4 duos and 5 shots at classic NBA playoff shooting points.
