"Snow Falls fragrant mountain tree" tells the story of the only town on the island of San Pezzo, the port of Tomomu. Just looking at the name of the novel will think of it as a romantic novel, but in fact it is a suspense novel.
The novel begins with a trial that sets the stage for the rest of the story, using a Faulkner-like approach to the narrative and gradually unraveling the real cause of Carl Hein's death through a multiplayer perspective.
People on the island make a living growing strawberries and fishing, and hatsue, a Japanese girl, and Ishmael, an American teenager, fall into a confused first love.
Later, when the Pearl Harbor incident broke out, the Japanese residents on the island were sent to concentration camps, and the two finally broke up for a series of reasons, and Hatsue soon married the Japanese Miyamoto Tendo.
After the war, Ishmael became a reporter for a severed arm in the town, while Hatsue's husband was involved in a murder. Hatsue and Ishmael meet in court, and the story begins.
In this novel, Ishmael's feelings for Hatsue are delicately written, and he has always expected to reunite with Hatsue, but in the end, when he grasps the evidence that Hatsue's husband can be proved innocent, although he hesitates, he still publishes the evidence. By writing about Ishmael's choices, the novel points out the fairness and justice that have always existed.
