TSPDT has named the World Directors Chart and Masterpieces

As an amateur film fan, I often have difficulty choosing to read films. Time is limited, how to read the most best works in the least amount of time? How to effectively avoid bad films?

The soul of the film is the director, so the selection of the film first looks at the director. Naturally, we first choose a master director with a high status and read his work. So what is the status of this director in the eyes of the industry, professional film critics, and film scholars? If a director has many works, good or bad, we naturally have to give priority to watching the best works in a limited time, then which works of this director are the best? Which works are not recognized?

The professional film critic statistics website TSPDT (THEY SHOOT PICTURES, DON'T THEY?) solves this difficulty for us. The critic website counts 3,873 private film lists from critics and film scholars worldwide (private lists refer to the best films selected by a film critic himself) and 2,543 comprehensive lists (a film theme, selected film selections), and counts the world's most recognized directors in the industry. The website provides a comprehensive list of film critics, film scholars, film experts and directors from around the world, representing the views of industry insiders and film critics around the world, and basically reflecting the position of these directors in the history of world cinema.

At the same time, the website collects a selection of films by film critics and film scholars around the world, ranking the representative film works of these 250 directors. I will list the ranking of each director's representative works in the TOP250 one by one, which can guide everyone to choose excellent movies to watch.

TSPDT has named the World Directors Chart and Masterpieces

Jean-Luc Godard (French: Jean-Luc Godard, born 3 December 1930) was a French and Swiss director. He was one of the founders of French New Wave cinema.

Godard's parents are French and Swiss. He was educated in Nyon, Switzerland, then attended high school in France and then at the University of Paris. He developed an interest in cinema during his days at the Sorbonne, and for several years after graduation he worked with young filmmakers and critics to promote the New Wave of French cinema.

Godard's films are often seen as challenging and countering the filming and narrative style of Hollywood films. He also injected his political ideas and extensive knowledge of the history of cinema into his films. In his works, the shadow of existentialism and Marxist philosophy can often be found.

The French director, Ben a painter, turned to film in 1933. During World War II, he was imprisoned in a German concentration camp, where he met Bishop Brickberger, and after leaving the camp, he was entrusted by the bishop to shoot the feature film "Angel of Sin" set in the Bedani Convent, which established his film style with philosophical and Catholic ideas as the theme. The personality is lonely and high, and the works are few and refined. The style is simple, the subject matter reinterprets the works of literary masters (especially Dostoevsky), pays attention to the details, likes to use non-professional actors, and makes contemplative explorations of the loneliness and transcendence of the spiritual world. His aesthetic belief was to use film to blend music and painting, rather than drama and photography. Quote: Art is not a luxury, but a necessity.

Maunau, a pioneer of German cinema, a famous silent film director, and a representative of German Expressionist films in the 1920s. When he was young, he already loved poetry and drama, studied fine arts, and was trained in theater performance. His stylized and formal composition laid the foundation for the creation of many directors in the future, and his shooting skills still dominate the history of German cinema today. Maunau (1888-1931) had a short life, but left an important film legacy, and almost eighty years later, the charm of his works is still irresistible. However, Mauna is certainly unfamiliar to the new generation; those who remember him may vaguely remember his most famous works, "Vampire Zombie", "Faust", and the Oscar-winning "Sunrise"; but not many people have heard of his early works "Night Walk" (1920) or "Castle Horror" (1921), nor will they know that he made the comedy "The Duke's Money" (1924), or the later adaptation of Molière's play "Tadouf" (1926).

Vittorio de Sica is a famous Italian director and actor, an important director in the post-World War II Italian renaissance of neo-realism, and an actor with great talent and charm. His "Bicycle Thief" is an in-depth study of the life of the working class in post-war Italy, embodying a natural style. The significance he had at that time was quite important from a historical point of view. He devoted his early years to acting, making his first professional performance on stage in 1923 and becoming a popular stage icon and singer in the 1920s. After the 1930s, he doubled as a director. The 1944 film "Children Are Watching" has great significance in his directing career, and is known as the pioneer work of Italian new realistic film, and its value is very high.
